Skagen is a small fishing village at the top of Denmark and there is many holiday cottages and it is a good place for tourists to visit because of the beach.

Thank you :)

If there are any specific questions about northern jutland and Skagen just ask.

Restaurants in Skagen? Any "must see" places?

Can you walk up to the top of the lighthouse (Grenen)?

We will be on Silver Cloud in August - docking for a day and, like Kathy, haven't found many "attractions" in and around Skagen. I always like the "off the beaten path" places. And anywhere that serves a good, local beer! :p

Thanks!

There is also a sight of two oceans colliding.

If you walk north, from the town of Skagen, across the sandy beach, you come to the northern tip

of Jutland (Jylland), here, on a good day, you’ll see two oceans, “Skagerrak” from the West and

“Kattegat” from the East collide, it can be quite a sight, and theoretically you can you can have

your feet in two oceans at the same time!!

Ah great. After doing my research we are going to rent a bike in the town of Skagen and bike out to Grenen and then go to the sanded church. Have you been here? I expect the answer is yes. Can you recommend any can't miss restaurants for a seafood lunch? Any other advice?

Thank you

Todd

You do realitet that the church and Grenen are in opposide ends of Skagen.

The distance is not long but there will be some backtracking.

Its a few years now that I was there so I can't remember the name of the restaurant but I will do some research and come with some suggestions.

Is this town where the famous Skagen watches are made? My partner has one, very nice...

No, that is actually an American company. Although it is founded by a Danish couple resident in the US. It is named after the town, probably to tap into the quite strong 'Danish Design' brand. No idea where they are manufactured, maybe somewhere in Asia ;)

We had a very enjoyable DIY day in Skagen last August. We got off the ship as soon as we were cleared to go ashore and enjoyed a walk around the beautiful town until the Skagens Art Museum opened. The museum was very well done - it was particularly interesting to see the same scene or event through the artwork of different artists. The museum shop had some interesting items for sale.

Afterwards we went in a few shops, including the Skagen watch shop which had glasses of wine out for the shoppers/browsers.

There were several cute restaurants along the main shopping street with outdoor patios to enjoy the fantastic weather. We ate at Kokkenes on the town square at a table shaded by an umbrella. The portions were large and the food tasty - I had a wonderful sandwich made with eggs, similar to a croquet madame, and a salad.

After lunch we made our way over to the Skagen brew house where we enjoyed some local beer in the beer garden before heading back to the ship.

We'll be in Skagen port on Thurs May 3rd. I want to go to the Skagen Bunker Museum and Grenen tip. What's the best way to get there? From what I have seen online the bus (#1) goes to a big parking lot in Grenen and from there we can walk to the Bunker museum which is not far and also this is where to catch the Sandormen ride to the tip (30 kr). My concern is that Google maps say the bus to/from Grenen runs every 2 hrs. We are in port from 7:00 am till all-aboard at 3:30pm. Do we have time?

Where can I find a bus schedule?

Also - do ships offer a shuttle into town, possibly to the bus station where we can catch the Bus #1?

Please tell me if my plan is do-able; or suggest a better way.

Susan

Here is a link to the Skagen City Bus SK1 - Not that many departures. https://www.nordjyllandstrafikselskab.dk/custom/mediafiles/Timetables/125/SK-1-KPL_KORT.pdf?v=01jyxh

From the bus stop you can walk to the bunkers and to the tip as well - same direction. Or take Sandormen to the tip..

Enjoy your day at Skagen.

Does Bus #1 in Skagen run all year round or does it begin its season at a special time during the summer/ We are arriving in lat May of 2018 and riding the bus would be great. I thought I read that it begins at the end of June. I am hoping that is wrong. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Just so you don't get the wrong idea. Skagen is a major European fishing port (the biggest in Denmark with more than 300.000 tonnes landings a year) this is around half the volume of the worlds' biggest fishing port in Vigo, Spain.

The town itself is very cute, but the fishing harbour is big industry, although there are also smaller boats.
