Suggestion on what to do in Kitava, Papua New Guinea for the day??

Recommended Posts

We are going to Kitava, We have never been there before.

I was wondering what is their not to miss in Kitava?? and what would you recommend doing here for the day for a first time visitor?

Any ideas / suggestions are very welcome

Kitava is a beach. A bit shallow for snorkeling close in, but you can pay one of the kids with canoes to take you out to deeper water. Not much else. You can also get one of the big canoes to take you across to a small island a short distance offshore.

I'm trying to recall if there was any singing or dancing, but I'm probably thinking of Kiriwina Island.

We went ashore very early and had the delight of a large group of topless teen girls dancing for us. This was followed by other dances from other groups of villagers but they weren't as good imo. There is really nothing much to do on Kitava - you can walk into the village or engage in the usual DIY beach activities. The locals will be selling handcrafts.
