Yangon overnight - visa

On our Asia cruise next year we have an overnight in Yangon. As the ship will be docking about one hour away from the city, we would like to get a hotel room and stay in the city for the overnight. Has anyone done this on a ship visa (in Burma/Myanmar)? Sometimes the visas that are issued for cruisers are specific to visits by cruise ship and I am thinking, could cause problems for on-land stays, especially in places like Burma. Does anyone have experience with that?

Resurrecting this thread as I would also like to know whether you can use the ship's organised visa whilst overnighting in a hotel.

This would be on a private tour.
