Accessible Transport and Excursion, Nassau / Atlantis HELP

We are taking my 78 yr old mother on her FIRST cruise this summer on the newly refurbished Mariner of the Seas to Nassau and Cocco Cay. She has only experienced these locations through our pictures and videos. I would love to show her Atlantis but I am very concerned with the availability and access for wheelchairs. She is very able to walk and climb small amounts of stairs but due to her COPD and Oxygen requirements we try to reserve her energy for the big things. We will be bringing a collapsible transport wheelchair for her for traversing the ship as well as any possible port exploration or excursion. I have been in email communication with RCI to understand the accessible requirements onboard and I understand that they have an accessible excursions dept. as well.

Has anyone contracted a private accessible transport to Atlantis for just the 2 hr tour of the Dig and the property? Did you experience any accessible issues? My preliminary research is showing upwards of $200 from port to Atlantis before the actual Tour Excursion costs. The availability of transport from RCI seems to be extremely limited and I do not want her waiting on the pier for hours for accessible transport to and FROM Atlantis. Any recommendations or lessons learned is greatly appreciated, We want this experience to be amazing for her.

As you come out of the port, immediately west there is the Paradise Island Water Taxi Terminal. Atlantis is on Paradise Island and it is a very easy trip. We both use small scooters and the attendants just assisted us on and off the water taxi and lifted our scooters on and off. Oh, do not look for a “terminal”. They just dock at the edge of the water. Portions of Atlantis are accessible. We just wandered around the open areas and did not purchase a pass to see everything. For details on what you can or cannot see, I'd suggest you check out their website. Actually, the water taxi was considerably less expensive than any land transportation.

On one trip, we took a taxi to Fort Fincastle and the Water Tower and scooted back (downhill) to the ship. Not the best roads for scooters or mobile devices, but was safe and doable. I do not know if the Water Tower has reopened or not. Many years ago, I was able to take my granddaughters up. There is an elevator.

Have a wonderful cruise,

Betty

Contact Gerard at gerardblewis@hotmail.com. He has accessible vehicles. You meet him outside the vendor area, so a bit of a walk to get to any transportation. He has ramped, as well as lift vehicles. Do not forget the b in the address!

Since he is private, you might inquire about a little scenery ride as well with some history as Atlantis is a 10-15 ride at most. He is very knowledgeable and reliable. He does not combine groups.

Taking the Atlantis tour is bought at the main desk...bracelet. They set you up with the elevator and a guide, but you push the chair the entire time, inside and out....all flat, but about 45 minutes and a small group. Quite a bit of walking if you do both ends.

There is also a ramp that goes down to the Marina shopping complex....left side outside past the staircase 1/2 way down. Pretty, eateries and shops.

With the DIG, tour, a little casino, shops inside and Marina area, 4 hours go fast if she is up to it all. Enjoy.
