Musings on Mariner - A slow boat from China

No worries, drinking my coffee and enjoying the banter.

Bob said we could carry on however we wanted on this type of thread.

Within reason. [emoji6]

We agree we all know you are a doctor and someone very welcome in anyone's company although by the time you hear everyone's ailments you probably want a bit peace and quiet.

My little sister, on the other hand, finds people want to shy away from her when she tells them she is a specialist in infectious disease.;p

She had to go to college a few years more to gain specialist status...for awhile there I thought she had become a "career student". ;) But seriously, yes...I am very proud of her.

Sorry I didn't post this earlier but perhaps it'll help someone. If you want to visit the Burj Khalifa and go up for the view, a great way to do it is to email the concierge from the website and reserve for cocktails. The lounge is one level below the viewing platform and you enter the tower at a special door where they have your name and send you up a special elevator. We enjoyed the sunset and a couple of drinks each a few years ago. There was a 70 usd minimum for gents, nothing for ladies. Besides a memorable experience, a good bargain compared to tickets to the viewing platform.

Ok, now that I've got some attention, let me fill you in on some of the details.

We booked this cruise about a year ago when it was marketed as a Singapore to Miami 3 leg reposition. We were on the Rhapsody TA and jumped on it the day it was released. Secured the same deck 9 JS for all three legs.

Leg 1 was Singapore to Dubai via Phuket, India, and Oman. Leg 2 was Dubai to Barcelona via Jordan, Suez Canal, Isreal, and Crete. Leg 3 was....well it got cancelled so who cares. Should have gone from Barcelona to Miami, but now it's going to Cadiz for drydock.

Anyway, Royal refunded our Leg 3 fare, gave us $1,000 pp airfare credit, reduced fare on legs 1 & 2 by 50%, and gave us a 25% FCC based on the cost of leg 3. So our 41 day Odyssey got shortened to 28 days and the fare went from around $9,000 to $2,250. Oh, and we also had $450 OBC from booking onboard Rhapsody.

To top it off, sometime after final payment we got a free upgrade from our JS to a GS.

Next up...the flight from hell

I didn't like to say. We have them off the coast of Scotland. Infact all the way across to Norway

John is right now smack in the middle of big oil country of course. Bucky's career was power generation, going to many countries over the years.

Actually I think John had involvement in oil somehow? Or not John?
