Guangzhou, China

I am leaving on my 4th business trip to China in just a few weeks! On this visit, I will spend 1-1/2 - 2 days in Guangzhou, a city I have not yet explored. I am reading up on things to see, do, and of course ... eat (Cantonese)! I am traveling with a business colleague, who knows the city well, but I am curious about your favorite places from those who have visited.

Unfortunately, since my time is limited in Guangzhou, I cannot make the journey over to Hong Kong on this trip.

Thanks!

A walk along the Pearl River, to walk off dinner is nice, especially around the TV Tower.

Take a hike up White Cloud Mountain. Or use the gondola like I did. Unless it changed in the last year, vending machines up on top don't take cash or cards, only AliPay or WeChatPay from a phone app.

Yuexia Park and take a picture alone in front of the 5 Rams (good luck).

Spent 3 nights in Guangzhou last year on a short holiday.

It feels like a commercial city. Baiyun mountain was full of locals. Go early if you want to go, otherwise the cable car going up gets really crowded.

See the huge crowds as we came down.

Shamian Island was worth a visit. Easy to get to.

Not forgetting their most famous shopping street. I called it Up Down 9 STreet -

ShangXiaJiu

Enjoy! Where would you be staying? We stayed at the China Hotel, A Marriott Hotel. An older establishment but it was good.

We didn't shop very much, but I found the Qing Ping market interesting, with all the dried goods.

We also checked out Li Wan Plaza in Guangzhou... an intimidating place. Thousands of small shops, during wholesale trade.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am staying at the Crowne Plaza in Guangzhou City Center. Yesterday afternoon we went to Chen Clan Ancestral Hall and to Shamian Island. Today, we were in Foshan all day, and after our business meetings, we went to Foshan Zumiao, the Ancestral Temple and the museum.

There is so much more to see and do, yet so little time!

Back to Shanghai in the morning for the rest of the week ...
