What is the night life like on Pride of America? Are the bars open late? Do they have activities going on late into the night? Does the cruise director’s staff have lots of activities to participate in?

We will be on POA in 250 days and can’t wait!

Thanks in advance.

The following quote from Trish 1c on another thread about sums it up. Add to it that there is also no casino or gambling.:

"The Hawaii cruise is all about Hawaii & not about the ship at all. We ate breakfast aboard, left & didn't come back until very late on the overnight trips & right before sail away on the other days. We ate & went to bed to be able to get up & start another port packed day. It was the least amount of time I ever spent awake on a ship."

Thanks Silver Sweethearts.

Johnrich -- since you specifically asked about nightlife, I will share with you that my husband is a nightowl . . .he often closes down the late night bars on other ships around 4 a.m. He was bored stupid & back in bed by 11 p.m. - 12 a.m. on most nights aboard P.O.A.

There are very few on board organized activities because frankly no one cares. The Veteran's social was well attended (most I have ever scene aboard any cruise on any line) and the last night there was a comedy show that was packed. 80s night in the disco had a decent crowd for about an hour around 9 p.m.

The two biggest on board "events" were the night sail past the flowing volcano & the say sail past the N'apali (sp?) coast as we left Kauai.

Also worth noting that the culture in Hawaii is not one of big nights out. Except for Honolulu most bars on the various islands are closed by 10pm- even in busy tourist resorts. It’s a very early to bed place.

Even in the heart of Waikiki my husband & I could not find much open past 11 p.m. What was open was empty.

There is zero nightlife. This is NOT like any other cruise you’ve probably been on. It’s all about ports and the ship is an afterthought. Honestly it’s one of my least favorite ships. The design is just boring and there’s nothing catchy about it at all. It’s not a dump or anything, but it’s just....meh.

Think of it as a floating hotel more than anything else.

The Pride of America was designed specifically to take people from Island to Island, it really isn’t a Cruise Ship is any way. It’s all about the Ports of Call. If you’re looking for a Cruise with Shipboard activities look at just about any other Cruise in the World.

Nightlife? None

Bars open late? 11 I think, but we never saw anyone in them past 8.

Activities late? No

Cruise Director activities? Some but we always went ashore when in port so if you choose to stay on the ship, they have activities planned

I just got home from my POA cruise. No nightlife that I saw... The first reason is the cost of a drink and second, most folks are just exhausted. We didn't know what to expect and our routine became getting back on board around 4:30, getting showered, grabbing a bucket of beer, and going to a show at 6:30. We would get some dinner at 7:45 then have a nightcap on the balcony and it was time to force ourselves in bed by 10 because our excursions started at 8am!!!

Yes the PoA is more of a ‘floating hotel’ than a cruise ship. There are activities but more low key. We attended the lei making classes on 3 afternoons-Kukui Nut leis, ribbon leis (which many of the crew wear everyday) and finally flower leis. The “Hawaiian Cultural Ambassador” led the classes and gave instructions along with some cultural background. He also narrated the sail by of the lava flowing into the ocean and the Napali Coast. We chose to stay on board during the overnight in Kauai when most of the passengers went to the luau. The cre put on a terrific ‘talent’ show that we loved. We found that we were still on East Coast time (6 hours ahead of Hawaii in October) and were able to get up easily in the morning but were wiped out by early evening.

I sailed on the POA last August, and I agree with all the comments others are making. However, Howl at the Moon stayed open till about midnight and was extremely entertaining. It's two piano players who take requests from the audience. Great entertainment. The last night of the cruise, other entertainers from other shows came on and sang. We spent three nights there.

They did the White Party two weeks ago. Great music....how many dancers there are beside the crew is variable, I guess. I enjoyed it. Another night we saw a comedian who made me laugh in spite of my really not liking comedians. It's not like a Carnival cruise, but there is opportunity to party...just bring a party group with you.

I heard the clientele skews on the older side. My husband and I were planning on partying anyway. When are you going? We’re going on 2/2/2019. We’ll drink with you. Haha.

On the contrary. The POA draws passengers of all ages, as Hawaii is popular with everyone from children to seniors. As mentioned, there are no sea days and many places to visit ashore all day every day, so a party ship it is not. It does't have to be. Hawaii is the attraction.

I'd love to know too!! Our first NCL cruise was on the Bliss, which doesn't have Howl at the Moon. Dueling Piano shows are a lot of fun!
