One day in Vancouver. What would you do?

Recommended Posts

It may sound trite, but without knowing more about you and your traveling companions your best bet by far is to go look at Trip Advisor. Not knowing anything about you & yours, what Joe Q Public thinks is the best stuff to do is a much more rational suggestion than any individual opinion - and especially that of us locals, since we live here and can visit whatever whenever and the saner among us tend to pay attention to tourist season so we know where to avoid when lots of visitors are in town;-)

Start with the ranked lists of popular things to do, skim the top 10 and see which jump out at you as things you'd like. Also try the many posts titled things like 'one day in Vancouver' which usually suggest multiple activities and even how to get around between them efficiently. If nothing there is doing it for you - congrats, you're not 'normal'!!! So come back and tell us what kind of things you like to do, whether your budget is tight or unlimited or somewhere in-between, how mobile your group is, and you'll get much more useful targeted suggestions.

Also, fire up Google Maps or whatever your preferred provider of mapping is - there's a very good chance the stuff you consider will either be walkable from any downtown hotel, or has a free shuttle if it's an out-of-town thing. Public transit is fuly-integrated in Google so you can compare walk/cycle/drive/bus/SkyTrain times for moving around in one place.

Just so I do give you something directly... some 'high value' stuff we have that nobody else does - Stanley Park and the Seawall around it (longest in the world) are very unique so most folks who don't hate the outdoors should enjoy them, and they're free so the only potential problem is mobility. Lots of other parks & gardens too - but which is best for you depends what kind you enjoy, since you don't have time for them all. Classic Chinese scholar's garden? Traditional Japanese garden & teahouse? English rose garden? Rhododendrons? Redwoods? We've got all of those and more, but some are too far apart to feasibly enjoy in one day even if you skipped all the cultural, historic, and indoorsy stuff!!!

Sounds like you are landing the day before and then boarding a cruise the next morning. It would help if you can provide more details on your availability time, we can give you better advice.

Possible timeline...

  • 2pm flight arrival
  • 3:30pm downtown hotel check-in
  • 4:15pm catch the downtown shuttle to Capilano Suspension Bridge to take advantage of the 5pm discount?
  • 6:30pm catch return shuttle back downtown for dinner
  • 8:30pm head over to Fly over Canada to check out their last show of the night at 9pm
  • 10pm check out the nightlife... head to Bella's for a cold one
  • 11pm back to hotel with dreams on returning another day because you didn't budget enough time

Next morning

  • 7am wakeup and breakfast
  • 10am drop off luggage and begin boarding process to beat the crowds

Tony Thank you for sharing, we will be @ Vancouver on Sept, 2019 for our Eclipse cruise to Hawaii.

Will arrive Friday night to YVR cruise departure on Sunday. Our plans are the Hop-On Hop-Off trolley with several stops, like Dr Sun Yat-Sen Garden, Stanley Park, The Steam Clock. Your videos help us to make a better plan.
