Freeport Question

Are there things to do within walking distance from the ship? How about a beach within walking distance? Was wondering if this should be a day to stay on the ship or not. Thanks.

nothing to do at the port. no beaches within walking distance. very industrial port area... stay on the ship

There is a small shopping area at the port. We usually take a bus ride into Freeport and go to the casino or maybe some of the shops down there. Never taken any carnival excursions. Sometimes we just stay on the ship and watch the port activity.

Take a 5.00 shared taxi-bus to Lucaya. Lots of shopping, bars/ restaurants, casino, beach. Beautiful beach and basically the thing to do when in Freeport.

Don't stay on the ship. There are fun things to do in Freeport. Don't let the ugly port turn you off.

Yeah, I second that! Only thing at the port are oil tanks + cement plant.

Nope. Also dodgy cabs at the port, you can watch security chase them off. I recommend an official excursion or stay on the ship.

Lucaya is where to go. The bus shuttles back and forth. I do not recall anyone checking to see if we were on an excursion. Certainly, not on the way back to the cruiseport.

Go snorkeling at dead mans reef.

So if I am understanding this correctly.... There are readily available shuttles to take you back and forth from the dock to Lucaya?? Do you make arrangements to be picked up and brought back to ship or do,you just hop on the next one available? Obviously don't want to be a dock runner trying to get on ship before it leaves port ;)

The shuttles run continuously on a bout a 1/2 hour loop, so yes you just hop on the next available one.

Other options are to do some of the resorts for the day, like Cove Beach Resort has their own shuttle.

Plenty of shuttles...one right after the other. They will drop you off in front of the taxi/shuttle stand in Lucaya, once you are ready to head back, simply go to where they dropped you off (which is right in front of everything) and take the 20 minute ish ride back to the ship. I live in Florida and have been there numerous times.
