Booking specialty restaurant for 2 couples

We're traveling on the Star this summer with another couple. Is it correct to assume that only one of us call and make a reservation for 4 or does someone from each room have to call?

Only one person needs to call and make the reservation or you can have one person make the reservation online when booking opens for it. You can make dinner reservations 90 days prior to your cruise if you are staying in any cabin other than a suite or the Haven, which open at 100 days for them.

Apparently it is now 120 days out for restaurant reservations.

Another thing to consider is that if not everyone has the dining package then get someone with the package to do the bookings to avoid any upfront payments (at places with a cover charge like Moderno and Teppenyaki).

Also, you don’t need to call if you don’t want to. Just do it online.

Do you know approximately what hours the specialty restaurants are open and is the day we depart a good day to go? We are leaving out of Venice at 5:30.

The open at around 5.30pm.

As for whether the first night is good or not, that is really personal preference. I believe that they may be quieter, but can't say from experience as we don't usually bother on that day.

If you leave Venice at 5.30 then I bet they will be quiet then as most people will be out watching the view. If you haven't sailed out of Venice before then don't miss it.
