Hi was wondering how the entertainment was on the River Queen also any idea on age group please.

This will be our first ever river cruise and Europe holiday, We are in our early 40s, just hoping to have some people our age.

Also any tips at all we are travelling in June 2018. Have tried to find a roll call for this cruise but can't seem to find one.

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks kindly

It's a beautiful ship. You will definitely be on the young side and there may be another couple or two in your age range but there will be plenty of like-minded and young-at-heart travelers. The ambiance is quite convivial and you will meet some nice people.

Entertainment is mostly a piano player with an ocassional local group coming aboard to perform. The lounge is an excellent place to congregate in the evenings...if you play cards, especially bridge you might find some friendly competition.

If you cannot find a roll call then you should start one but there probably won't be a lot of response. Only a very small percentage of cruisers have even heard of CC and the ship is so small, you'll be lucky to get a response.

My tip is to recommend that you shouldn't feel like you must go on every single excursion. You can use the bus for transportation and then strike out on your own. You can also leave a walking tour at anytime and make your own way back to the ship. I think the River Queen cruises are pretty long and the excursions can become a bit of a grind after awhile and the towns start to look the same. It's good to take a break.

Have fun!

Thanks kindly for your review, Not really card players but may have to get taught. I'm sure we will have a great time, just hoping we have some people our age to mingle with.

Don't rule out mingling with other passengers because of their age! If you do so, you're going to miss meeting some very interesting and usually very well traveled people. Given that the river boats are so small (and on our 3 cruises on Uniworld we've had 60 passengers, 80 passengers and 90 passengers) it is extremely easy to mingle both in the lounge, at meals and on excursions.

Oh yes we will mingle Lol. we are so excited. Do you know if they have theme nights like they do on the cruise ships? The river queen looks so beautiful. Looks like we are in for a luxury trip all round.:D:D:D:D:D

I think the River Queen is assigned to the Rhine area for all her sailings. Are you going on the 13day Legendary Rhine and Moselle? That itinerary is great and I also like the look of the ship, splendid Art Deco style, just cannot resist finding brass and dark blue elegant! I have seen the Royal Crown live ( I was allowed into the lounge); although not really a sister ship to the River Queen she is built in similar style and the interior is similar. Splendid!

I recommend the excursion to Villeroy & Boch for art and china but if you prefer Luxembourg that is fine!

Have a great time.

We have sailed on the River Queen twice. She is beautiful. Throw everything you know and expect about ocean cruising overboard. No theme nights, no casino, no glitzy entertainment, no need for fancy-dress-to-the-max wardrobe, no at sea days.

Instead bring sensible shoes, a sense of awe, and don't be surprised you are going to drop into bed by 10pm.

The cabins are cozy, the beds comfy, the showers have great pressure, the service flawless, the food delicious, the tours educational and the sights...oh, the beauty!

Feel free to ask as many questions as you can think of.

Oh that is also great. Many, many locks to go through! I wonder how she compares to the newer ships, the sundeck appears to be always closed for safety reasons on the Main Danube canal (low bridges) with those. Love the fact that they have an excursion to Kloster Eberbach. A very nice place.

At least some of the Uniworld ships have a nice viewing area (with small tables and chairs) in the bow below the bridge at a lower level than the sun deck. It was fascinating (and not a little scary at times :)) to sit there, watch the ship's bridge descend and the bottom of the canal bridge be just inches above the ship.

Ah, yes, I remember now somebody mentioning that Avalon also has ships with such nice areas. From what I recall Viking did not come out so well in reviews from past cruisers as regards such an area. Not sure why, is it the design of the longships? There must surely be such an area on those ships, is it just a bit small?

Good shot from the front, Hoyaheel, to show the situation on the decks. Next to the bridge one can make out a kind of step/staircase. I noticed it on recent photos on a German website, too. According to the drawing on the Uniworld website it is a lowered part and they do not call it the sundeck. A railing is visible in the drawing: https://www.uniworld.com/eu/ships/river-queen/deck-plans/

Something like that might help with sundeck issue, but I am guessing, one cannot make out how much lower it is. I love that photo on the Uniworld website. She is such a splendid-looking ship!

You're going to have a wonderful cruise! We sailed that itinerary two years ago with Scenic and thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip. Last July we sailed the Rhine & Moselle on the River Queen..While the very fancy decor wasn't to my taste the crew, the service and the food were top notch. They will take excellent care of you.

On our R.Q. cruise there was a good mix of ages. We're right around 60 but we had a great time with the younger folks on board some in their late 30's. The fun thing was no one seemed to notice age but just focused on enjoying everyone else on board. Being a little smaller around with around 125 passengers it was easy to get to know people. Much more so than on a 'big' Viking ship with 190.

Congrats on making a good choice for your river cruise. You're going to love it!

We were on the River Queen in December. It was an awesome trip due to Uniworld's exceptional staff and our routing. I will say that the ship lacks the "wow" factor that Uniworld's newer ships have. It seemed dated and of an older design, but we still had a great time and look forward to next Uniworld trip this June on the Catherine.
