Hello,

We purchased American Express Travel insurance for a 14 day Mediterranean Cruise we have this fall. Just wondering what your experiences have been with American Express travel Insurance. Thanks a bunch!

When we first looked into this, circa 2013, Amex had stopped offering travel insurance. Something about re-negotiating with the insurer; it was never all that clear, and we still aren't sure we got the full story about what was/was not available, but we did escalate it at Amex Plat Travel.

So, based upon suggestions here on CruiseCritic (and THANK YOU AGAIN!), we contacted TripInsuranceStore and started getting insurance from insurers who were not at all associated with selling any part of the trip (no conflict of interests anywhere, etc.).We get insurance from Travel Insured, and have had large claims paid with no nonsense.

The "experiences" you ask about would vary depending upon the actual policy (terms can vary state to state sometimes) and also the nature of the claim.

One important thing to check is that any "pre-existing medical conditions" wouldn't invalidate related claims. Those could be for medical costs overseas, but also for cancelling the entire trip prior to departure, etc.

The specific definition of "pre-existing" *matters*. A lot, somethings.
