Ruins on your own

Hey everyone, Does anyone know if it's possible to rent a car or scooter and go to the ruins on your own (not with a tour)? We have been to the ruins so we don't want to go but our friends we are travelling with have never been and would like to check them out. We are only in port 7am to 2pm so they were wondering if they could go on their own so they could just explore them on their own and get back in plenty of time. Thanks!

I have not seen a car rental company in Costa Maya. The nearest agency appears to be in Chetumal about 2 hours away. Others may know of one in Mahahual.

 

Native Choice offers great options for tours to the ruins and usually adjusts their times to fit the ship’s port times. Most cruise lines offer excursions as well.

You can hire a taxi for the day. Just go outside the cruise port to the taxi stand. Most visitors renting cars to come to Costa Maya do so up in Cancun and drive down to Costa Maya or Mahahual.
