Deliziosa and World Cruise 2020

No one has answered previous questions, so I'll try again:

How bad is the smoking smell on this ship?

Do inside and oceanview cabins have a sofa? I really need a place sit besides on the bed.

Really, how bad is the food? We like Italian food, love pizza and good breads. People complain about the serving size, but really, can't you just order two entrees at the beginning?

I know this isn't a luxury cruise and maybe not up to even Carnival/HAL and Princess standards, but the prices are so good and the itinerary so nice, I think we might just take a chance.

If we book now (deposit is not refundable) we get a beverage package including "select alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for lunch and dinner". Any idea what this includes and how it works? I'm also going to ask Costa.

That said, does anyone have a suggestion for a good Oceanview cabin?

Hi Lynn

We have not been on a world cruise but we have been on the Deliziosa twice.

Smoke smells on the ship: There is a strict no smoking policy BUT passengers are still allowed to smoke on their balconies. You might walk past a cabin and smell smoke. I cannot remember whether the Deliziosa has a cigar lounge but you can smell a little when you walk by. The rest is outdoors. On the pool deck on side will be smoking and the opposite side not. The casino is non-smoking.

Sofa in insides and ocean view: None on the ocean view cabins we had had sofas but they were all on the smaller ships. Have a look at the cabin lay outs. The drawings might give you an idea.

Food: The food is really not that bad. We only have breakfast in the buffet sometimes and Costa has brought back warm food. It is not extensive. The main breakfast items are still cold cuts, cheeses, bread, buns, pastries, fruit, yoghurt etc. If you have breakfast in the MDR you have a choice of American(pancakes), Belgian(waffles), English, Mexican(beans, rice, eggs and tortilla chips), German(sausage and boiled eggs), Scandinavian(rye bread, smoked salmon etc). You can also have omlettes, eggs benedict and eggs anyway you like. They also have a buffet table in the MDR.

Lunch in the MDR usually have 3-4 courses with choices. One course will be pasta.

Evening usually like lunch but with extra courses and cheese board(pre cut on a plate with nuts and stuff). There is an evening buffet but with limited hours. There are a few pay options as well but nothing like other lines. There is a pizza and burger restaurant. It's not expensive and both the pizzas and burgers are good. For €8 you'll get a bowl of olives to nibble on, a custom made pizza and a dessert. The burgers are €10. They seem to have them on special for half price mos of the time. The burgers are very big and come with wedges but they will bring fries if you want. There is also a chocolate bar where they sell cakes and choccies. I don't know whether the Deliziosa has a gelato place now. They seem to have a gelato trolley on most. It is not free but then I noticed the same on other ships. No soft serve machines any longer.

Portions: In the MDR the portions are smaller but if you have so many courses you won't be hungry. We usually have a starter , main and dessert or cheese. More than enough.

Is your included package "Pranzo and cena"? That will be things like wine and beer and soft drinks with lunch and supper only. If you are from the USA I understand that your card will have "water USA" on it and you will be able to get water whatever. The water in the cabins are totally drinkable. The rest of the time they only serve bottled water which obviously costs them money and they charge passengers for it. (How can they not).

Can't help you with a good ocean view cabin. I suggest get one on a deck between others and not close to the theatre. Do't worry about being close to lifts. We have found that convenient and was not bothered by noise at all. However on the Diadema we were on something like deck 6 near the theatre and the noise was terrible(we don't stay up late).

Hope that helps. There are a few regulars lurking most of the time. I am one of the working ones so I only get to respond on Wednesdays and weekends.

Have not been on the Deliziosa so can't really comment on the ship.

Sounds like you have the package Brindiamo included. It does include gin and tonics but not mojitos or other cocktails. You can have glasses of bottled water in any of the bars also coffee and wine.

I love the food on Costa and love the pasta. Rarely used the buffet. Went to MDR for all meals.

Not sure though if you should book a long cruise without finding out if you like Costa. Some people love it and some really hate it as it is different from other lines except perhaps MSC.

Deliziosa has a smoking lounge. I have never smelled smoke unless I was walking by as someone opened the door. Not sure about the pool deck but it's definitely limited. I see more smoking in Florida than I do on Costa these days.

Food I find comparable to 4-star resorts on the Costa Brava in Spain. Pizza is good by European standards but not nearly as good as in the US.

I believe Costa USA is now selling the same packages as Europe, so you need to check the Terms and Conditions for each package. Basic you get nothing, Pranzo and Cena is limited. I find Premium with Brindiamo included is good value for me- I'm in the Grand Bar until late.

Beware, not only are most travel agents completely ignorant of Costa, but many will say anything to get your credit card number.
