Amsterdam tipping (not on ship)

I will be doing AMA Tulip Time round trip from Amsterdam with their pre cruise stay. This will be my 2 AMA Cruise.

In Britain, there is no need to tip.

That really isn't true.

Taxi drivers, servers in restaurants, hotel porters etc. would all reasonably expect tips in Britain.

It is true that the amounts tipped are typically smaller than they would be in the USA for example, but tipping is still perfectly normal.

I would suggest simply 'rounding up' for small things like a cafe or a taxi but I'd still tip in a restaurant if you had a full mean and there was no service charge, but only 5-10%.

We tip when in Amsterdam. ;)

I was just in London in May and I tipped.

General rule of thumb, as best we've been able to determine, in Europe:

-10% or so in a restaurant, unless service charge is included

-leave the loose change on the bar when having a pint in a pub

-a euro per bag for bellmen/porters

-cabs: round up or 10-ish%

-tour guides: a few (or more) euro per person, depending on the price of the tour. If there's a separate bus driver, a euro or so per person for him/her
