Azdrydock...is your roll call for the Oct 7 sailing?

We are on the Oct 21 sailing.

I set up the one for Oct 7 and there already is one for Oct 21. I would suggest we monitor both.

We are planning on the Oct 7 cruise simply because the Xian-Bejing add on.

I am sure most of the comments will apply to both.

The very first Viking Ocean ship will dock in Hong Kong on March 12,2018. It will be the Viking Sun, currently doing the first World cruise. Check out their WC threads and they should be able to tell you.

It is the Viking Sun which is scheduled for Kai Tak.

The Viking Orion is scheduled (currently) to dock at the more convenient "Ocean Terminal" in "downtown" Kowloon next October. Walking distance to many sites and activities. The docking port may change but let's hope not.

Hi Joel Barry:

We are also booked on the Orion Oct. 7th cruise. The dock is at Marina Deck, Ocean Terminal, Kowloon.

What hotel will you be staying at in Honk Kong? We have reservations at the Marriott Courtyard Central.

Dear Roomiec:

We purchased the pre and post cruise tours from Viking because of the airfare deal, airport services and the chosen hotels. A friend visits Hong Kong and Beijing once a month to teach surgical procedures and stays at the Shangri-La in Hong Kong and either the Marriott Central or the Inter-Continental in Beijing; Viking's hotel choices. That sealed the deal for us. Thanks for the offer of hotel and tours. Perhaps we can get together for dinner or drinks.

Joel Barry

What post trip tours are available from Beijing through Viking ? We are not using their airfare deal.

Thanks,

Len

Dear Len:

We are staying at the Shangla Ra Kowloon very close to the cruise port at Ocean Terminal. One other couple on the Roll Call is also staying. Viking offers post trips in Beijing from two -eight nights and include Beijing (two nights) up to multi visits including Xian, Tibet and Chengdu. You can find out all of he information and costs at the bottom of the Viking Ocean page for our specific trip.

Thanks for the info on the post trips in Beijing. We are staying at a Marriott in Beijing. We are definitely doing a Xian trip (full day) and also the Forbidden City (1/2 day). We have not yet made those arrangements. We live in Florida. Where do you live?

Do you need a visa if you are just staying in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong requirements for a Visa & passport vary by nationality. The greatest majority of countries do not require a Visa (UK & rest of Europe, Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, etc), but must have passports valid for 1 month to 6 months after intended departure, depending on nationality.

Dear Len:

We split time between Maryland and Delaware beaches. Your intended itinerary detailed on the message boards is very adventurous and makes me nostalgic for the old days when we did similar outings. We are scheduled for the Viking pre and post and will take it slow and easy in Hong Kong and Beijing.

Joel Barry:

My wife, Carol, and I were in Hong Kong years ago (when it was a British Colony). She definitely wants to shop there, again, at The Stanley Market and The Pearl & Jade Market.

BTW...our son (Marc) has the largest podiatric medical practice in MD, with offices in Clinton, Olney, Silver Spring, and Kensington. Also, every summer, they go with their kids to spend a week at Rehoboth Beach. He can possibly get your feet (you and your wife) back in shape so that you can (take it slow but) enjoy touring just like the "old days" and be more adventurous, again.;)

We look forward to meeting you guys.
