Quiet places on Equinox for an introvert?

My husband is an extreme introvert. Being around large crowds is very draining for him. This has gotten worse since he turned 50 a few years back. We have cruised before on Princess about 8 years ago so know cruise ships can get loud and crowded. He agreed to go on a family cruise in June to the Carribean as my 50th bday present to me. That being said I am looking for ideas of places he can relax during the day that are relatively quiet and crowd free. We are in a sky suite so the balcony is an obvious first choice but looking for other ideas from those who have been on Equinox. Thanks so much!!!!

Here are some ideas for you:

The library - deck 10. It's more of an open space area with some comfortable chairs/sofas (as opposed to a square room filled with books)

Deck 5 - ensemble lounge - in my experience, very quiet during the day. I have seen events there but not often....

Oceanview Cafe - at NON-PEAK meal times, you could find some quiet spots around the windows or corners....

Sky lounge - if there are no planned events in the lounge, you may find a quiet spot to sit and relax.

The solarium - although this area may have people there, it is adult only, and relatively quiet - I've always found it peaceful.

I have always been able to find some quiet areas to relax so I'm confident you can reassure your husband. I hope some of the ideas above work out for your husband. Oh, happy birthday!

Shadow has given you pretty much the great options for your DH. Some venues are extremely quiet during the day, and busy at night, and vice versa. The Sky Lounge during the day is very quiet - a great place to grab a forward facing seat, read a book and watch the same view the bridge staff see! There are, seriously, a lot of places to find some peace and quiet, or just a unobtrusive place to 'people watch'

Agree, Michael's club is an excellent spot during the day. Not only is it quiet, but you can have drinks served to you, alcoholic or non-alcoholic. The biggest downside is that there are no windows to see the sea.

The relaxation room at the very front of the ship in the spa. Beautiful windows. Big padded loungers that you can read, relax, sleep in if you want. There are people brought in there to fill out spa treatment forms, but it's pretty much a whispering place/no talking place, nice quiet music, cold water and coffee. It's on deck 11 very front.

Oh wow! I didn't realize anybody can spend time in the relaxation room? I never checked it out because I thought it was for people using the spa.

You've already gotten some great tips! I am similar to what you described regarding your husband (54 and introverted enough to enjoy cruises solo) and can confirm that most of the day Michael's club can be a nice place to "hole up". If there happen to be some "loud folks" in Michael's, the lounge area just outside of there is often really empty and quite lovely.

If he at all enjoys steam rooms and spa sorts of settings I'd recommend buying the Persian Garden full cruise pass when you get on board. My general routine on board is to hit the gym about 5pm then spend about an hour in the thermal suite (Persian garden). By that point nearly everyone has gone off to dinner and shows and even the relaxation benches are empty. (the pass also gets you into the relaxation room mentioned elsewhere) That gives enough quiet time for me to enjoy the evening ahead. Some times by 7ish i then also even get a hot tub to myself in the solarium. I also aim to be among the last folks into Luminae--walking in right about 845/9 most evenings.

One "caution" for y'all is that the atrium setting of the Equinox and other solstice ships means that the noise travels a long ways up. It's not a problem in the suite, but getting to/from it does tend to make me a bit uncomfortable/annoyed, but not enough to stay away! (Though I do prefer the M class ships for a more introvert friendly setting!). BTW during the day, if he grows tired of the balcony but wants some sun, up top there will be some spots with loungers and no people!..just avoid the pool!!

Have a great trip.

As you can see, there are a lot of little places to get away from the crowds. I too do not like crowded spaces. You will never find me on the pool deck on a sea day. Instead I head to the loungers near the basketball court. Hardly a person to be had, and just up the stairs from the Mast Bar.

I'm also an introvert, and I appreciate your husband's need to get away from crowds. I haven't been on the Equinox, but on the Summit, I found that the deck above the pool was much more peaceful than the pool deck. You could find a lounger up there that was away from the crowd but still very convenient to the pool, the pool grill, and the pool bars.

A couple more out of the way quiet locations:

Passport Bar Deck 3(almost always empty)

Deck on 5 - Port side is smoking but Starboard is very quiet.

Team Earth on Deck 7 - Almost always empty - have a large table and jig saw puzzles

Card Room on Deck 9

The Library Deck 10 and 11

Sky Observation Lounge when not in use .

Lawn Club - Lots of quiet locations or even rent a cabana

Deck 16 Forward - Solstice Deck - a nice hidden area not heavily used if like being out in the sun.

A lot of great suggestions. If you DH wants to stay on the ship on the day in port, it will find it very relaxing and mostly quiet. These are our favorite days, “Port Sea Days”.

Avoid any large group ship excursions.

  • 4 weeks later...

Any where that isn’t crowded. 🤗

All through the day and night the crowds move around. If nothing is happening in that area it will be empty and quiet.

The buffet is even dead and quiet a few hours during the day and evening and so is the casino if it is a port day.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

The Sky lounge is almost empty most of the time. The most underused space on any Celebrity S Class ships.

As others have said, the Library is always quiet.

On our recent Equinox Cruise the Marriott Vacation Club had their table set up in the Library and there was a constant stream of people at that table the 5 or 6 times my wife and I went to the Library to read. Anything but quiet.

Good suggestions. The pool area is empty after 7. many times after dinner I'll go to the gym then sit in a hot tub at the pool while my wife is in the casino. No one around. I'll meet up with my wife after.

But, you are in a Sky Suite and the best place is your balcony. On a sea day I'll pretty much stay on the balcony most of the day. I mean what's not to like, we have a true ocean front room. I have no desire to be around the pool. Way too crowded and noisy and I like being around people - lol. I don't see the draw but then again we live in S Florida so a pool and the sun are not an "event" for us.

enjoy

All good suggestions here.

I would also add that if you are planning to eat at the buffet, go slightly before or after usual meal times to avoid crowds. I think there is outdoor seating for the buffet area, perhaps that area may be better for your hubby than inside.

The MDR may be a better choice for meals. Speak with the maitre’d and request a quiet table.

You could also enjoy room service for breakfast and lunch to be enjoyed on your balcony.

I hope you and DH enjoy your celebration cruise !

I am also an introvert but wouldn't say 'extreme'. You have gotten a lot of good suggestions for quiet places. They definitely can be found (although our experience with the Sky Lounge is that in the afternoons it tends to be used for events like trivia). One thing that irritates me is when I need to get a few minutes of quiet, I want actual quiet. In most parts of the ship there is always some kind of music playing, albeit generally soft, background music. I find my balcony is the absolute best place to chill out. With that said, location is crucial. If you are under the pool or a similar area it will definitely not be quiet all the time. I think you had a Sky Suite if I remember right? Some of those are located right under the pool deck. If you have one of those, move if you can. They can get noisy.
