Attessa IV

Recommended Posts

We have time to time spoken of the Attessas of Dennis Washington. Someone kindly sent me this link to the newly lengthened, renovated Attessa !V. Dennis latest offering is now the 23rd largest yacht in the world. When I left Vancouver at the end of October she was sitting at the pier at the foot of Lonsdale in North Vancouver.

Did you happen to notice that BC Ferries has a new CEO - I thought Hahn was going to be around for another year or so or did something take place while i was away - this guy is a former NHLer and will be collecting about half of what Dave was paying himself.

Cheers

Yes, I did. We have the Shaw Direct system down here so between watching the news on it and reading the Sun on line a couple of times a day I keep pretty connected. Hahn had announced his resignation for late this year a couple of months ago as part of cost savings measures at BCF.

There are at least two Mike Corrigans who played professional hockey, the Mike Corrigan you are thinking of played for the Canucks for a season and a bit in the early 70's and now is in his mid-60's. The BCF Mike Corrigan is 50 and while he played professional hockey, he never made it out of the minors....but good call. This Mike evidently will be working for a just under $600k which should have the critics swinging from thier tails from the rafters.

Interesting that last night over dinner and before the drinks I mentioned that BC Ferries had a new CEO by the name of Mike Corrigan and both of my friends said - didn`t he play for the Canucks back in the early days - so I had to give them the right answer but for them to remember that player as well was interesting.

PD - when are you going to get a private cruise on this yacht and do a trip report for us.

Cheers

I really don't know, however the person who sent me the link is the ..... ah guess I really shouldn't say it ..... but I live in hopes that maybe one day I will get a ride. However, in reality I am afraid my hopes and 50 cents will buy me a cup of coffee ..... well nowhere.:(

Hi guys

Just had to jump in and say Hello - I'm back....

Had a wonderful trip on the Constellation and got the bar seats all dusted off for your upcoming Carribean crusie in January :):)

While on board I booked a TA in April on the Eclispe...ahh an S class... and I got a balcony really cheap :) by using my 3 cat upgrade. WE will sail to Southhampton and then do a 3 week land tour of the UK, France (Normandy), Belgium & Holland taking both our Fathers with us. For Ross's Dad it is a trip down memory lane as we will be visiting places he fought in during WWII.

So we have a new head of the Ferry Corp... Sorry really out of touch - I believe in enjoying my vacation to the full & not worring about the news. Especially as it is almost impossible to get much coverage of Vancouver content when cruising Europe.

We were on Connie in October and Millie before. The big differences I saw were in the restaurants and lounges and the new coffee/sweets bar. Connie now has a Tuscan Grill that disappointed us on our one try (food poorly prepared) but we loved the Ocean Liners restaurant. The former silk flower boutique has been turned into a kids/teens' area. There were inconsequential changes to the shopping mall and to the area where the photo gallery is. Perry Grant was still performing in Michael's Club :). Oh, and there was no art auction :))

Starting in May, the Soltisized Millie will debut with the much-discussed aft cabins on Deck 11 above the Ocean bar, the children's play area moved into the port side of the forward observation lounge on Deck 11, and the new Qsine restaurant where the children's area used to be. Those would be bigger changes for me than I remember encountering on Connie.

So the solution to a problem with a ferry with an elevator that doesn`t work is to take it out of service and provide a replacement one with no elevator - noticed how they stressed that it was a warranty issue - wasn`t that obvious a long time ago.

Yep, and I guess the washrooms on the BQ will be portapotties....that should be interesting first thing in the morning during January:D. Little wonder the east coast got the navy ship contract in seems that we on the wet coast can no longer build a ship with an elevator how could we be trusted with rockets.;)

I totally don't understand.

First you start a thread implying how wonderful a new [owned by Dennis Washington, of Washington Marine Group/Seaspan] private yacht is, and often imply he's your buddy, then you turn around and completely trash a vessel (and future navy vessels) to built by the same company.

It's a 50 minute sailing, and you're totally stressed out, not that there isn't a washroom, but that it's inaccessible except by stairs. Every sailing to every port on the Sunshine Coast is subsidized by the government, but apparently this isn't good enough for you when they substitute a slightly smaller vessel that requires stairs to reach the [main] washroom. Oh, and that the porta-johns put on the car deck for the few people who can't use the stairs aren't good enough for you. Of course, and this is only done during the relatively quiet winter period.

Perhaps I'm not feeling your pain because I lived in Victoria for 30 years where every penny of profit on the ferry that serves Victoria goes toward funding your money losing routes.

Who's getting stressed out? Not me, frankly I think it's a joke.

Now, maybe you can tell us which ships for the Royal Canadian Navy were awarded to west coast yards....as I read and saw, they all went east....we got the coast guard vessels.

As for restrooms, just how does a disabled person handle the stairs on the QB? You forget as an ablebodied person that this is a matter that is of major concern in my family as it should be for any aware person. As I read BCF's press release, restroom facilities will be provided on the car deck of the BQ, given there are currently no restrooms on that deck one might surmise that it will be portapotties...I just ad-libbed from there.

With respect to trashing the vessel, I plead innocent but maybe you can point out where in this thread that I have.

Please don't get me into an accounting debate, lest I bring up that very heavily subsidized transit ride you enjoy at least twice each day at the expense of tax payers in Metro Vancouver...gosh when was there a transit rate increase or a fuel subsidy last?

With that I will bid you a good evening, I am an hour ahead of you people, I have had a very stressful night watching my 49's and the Canucks.

At least the football game and hockey game were enjoyable to watch and it is nice to see the 49'ers back winning. is the Bowen Queen the only other ship that is available that can fit those berths or was this really a cost saving - ie - smaller crews move. Cheers Dennis

Ordinarily the Queen of Chilliwack is the substitute vessel on the route but she has been spelling off the Burnaby while she has been in drydock. I thought I read that the Burnaby was back on the Westview/Little River route and if I am correct then I don't have a clue where the 'wack is unless she is in the yards for her annual. I think they are very correct re traffic over the winter, I am quite sure that the BQ will do the job....if you don't mind the potapottie strapped to the deck....ouch that will a cool experience.

Yes the Burnaby is back on the Powell River - Comox run which is why it would make sense to have the Chilliwack replace the Island Sky - wonder if there is a site that shows which BC Ferries are getting their annual checkups.

Cheers

I don't know the answer to that but if you live in a ferry dependent community and you need to visit a medical specialist in Vancouver you get what we call a "pink slip" from your doctor who is referring you and MSP under what the call they "Travel Assistance Program" gets billed the for the full fare senior, disabled or not. A couple of years Gordon flew a trial balloon about eliminating this but took the appointment to London and nothing further was heard on the topic.;)
