Silver Shadow

We were on Shadow last month and I was really worried about the poor reviews regarding the general condition of the boat. No need to worry about the wear and tear however. Everything looked in good condition - nothing was tired or tatty. What you need to worry about however is the dreadful taste (if such it can be called) of the Silversea interior design team. Hideous oranges, retro regency stripe - think motel decor ..... all looks new, but taste does not come into it - excruciating!

Have you seen the new Muse, refurbished Cloud, or the design plans for the extended Spirit, Marama? The design is completely modern compared to the Shadow.

Jean(op) sorry if I am hijacking this post , I too would love to see pictures and conditions of this ship . We will be on the shadow in October . Les-would love to see any pictures of the vista /veranda rooms and public areas including the pool and the grill at night. Also like to know how it rides in the seas that you will be transiting through. Recent reviews said even in smooth waters it rocked.

Thanks in advance.

Of course.... No problem. First time for me on the shadow. I was somehow expecting it to be just like the wind with an extra deck.... And in the main, it is... But have found it quite different because of many quirky things. Anyone who has travelled both I'm sure will know where I'm coming from.

I hope to get round to posting a few snippets as a review... But I won't be going to the levels of the masters in JP and Terry... Hats off to them both

First impressions? Love it. . I feel at home.

The veranda we are in does seem smaller than on thecwind. Maybe it's my memory, but apart from missing vanity space, it does seem smaller. Maybe about a metre in length. Maybe it's just me but how it feels over wind and cloud.

Had lunch in the MDR and dinner in la Terrazza. Both meals were great.

Decor dated? Well I suppose if you want to think eras then maybe yes, but it's most certainly not falling to bits and in need of repair.

Anyway, here's a few pics before we trashed the room! Sorry no bathroom... Dunno why! Has a small shower, double basin and bath.

Considering cruise sept 2019 on Shadow, anyone know if they did renovations that they were talking about???

Jean

And yes..... SS did the usual... My wife's birthday... So balloons on room, cake and much to my wife's embarassing, a rendition of happy birthday in la Terrazza.

Oh... And whilst I will call when I get back.... Thank you to Lawrence for the OBC.... Much appreciated.

Here's some food pics from tonight

The cake was a slab of birthday cake

Apologies in advance if there are duplicates.... Difficult to see on a small phone after a few beers and dodgy eyes!

I'll use the 12.9" iPad pro going forward!

PS. . Free WiFi on one device for each guest which has been capable of voice streaming calls on WhatsApp.... For the cruise... Not 60 mins per day!

For Singapore, it was actually quite cool... Superb!! Casual night... Short sleeved shirt.... Just right!

La Terrazza was splendid tonight... Apart from "favoured" guests behind who had a pair of tables push together and reserved..... For 3 could seat 4 each or 6 in that configuration, .... Who were then allowed to smoke cigars at the table in the middle of the balcony guests asked it it was ok to smoke and told yes.. then got up and left.

Not impressed. No idea who the gentleman was or his two lady guests, but it's not playing ball to expect people to put up with that. It didn't adversely affect us.. but just the same, it's not good.

Hope it doesn't get repeated!

Have you found the Grappa Bar yet?, or has it been renamed

Well I found the main bar.... And very busy it was too,! Not sure if that's where you meant? I did notice a small bar next to the casino that wasn't open but didn't notice a name.... I'll look later.

BTW.... One correction. The bumpf did say it was one device per suite. It is in fact that and not as I'd thought.. per person. (I'd thought we were both in at the same time but not the case.

Annoyingly it seems I've mislaid my surface pro charger. No idea where that's gone. I'm sure I packed it. End of year accounts might have to wait until we're back! lol

Thanks Les for sharing the pictures and your comments. So the bathroom has a shower and bath? And you also now get free Wi-Fi for one device for the entire cruise? Or did you pay for that ? If free , were you expecting that? I thought I read that they were offering free Wi-Fi , but wasn’t sure.

The food looks well presented. So you were in terrazza restaurant where those pictures were taken? And you are saying that they do allow smoking outside in the restaurants?

Looking forward to hearing more if you have time to share. Hope you continue to enjoy your trip.

Thanks again

Ps happy birthday to your wife

Yes those photos were in la Terrazza and yes they allowed them to smoke... And it was a central location. I don't think they should have been allowed to... But were. As I'd said, they had the tables put together and one of the seats was padded ... So "special" for the occupant. Not that it matters, but they spoke Italian, which may or may not be an indicator?

Yes. The room does have a small but adequate shower and a bath.

I'll post the text re with fi in a mo...

lol

That's it, sometimes open between 6 and 7, especially if the Captain likes a pre dinner cocktail, otherwise after dinner until late.

On the Whisper there is usually a small plate of chocolate truffles in the bar after dinner. Yummy.

Ok, not sure if this is it... It's called Lampadina and on deck 5 next to casino and opposite the shop.

Cosy little bar accessed from casino or corridor.

Also attached.... Tonight's La Dame menu.... Hmm maybe not... It said 100% uploaded but doesn't appear this end... Will retry if not there later. Lunch on the deck today... Sea day... Thai. :-)2c17260513b39d653ed651467edd27f1.jpg

Yay Les!!!! Thank you so much for posting. Good news about the internet, it will be a huge help keeping in touch with family (and work). Sent Jeremy off to the airport about an hour ago, so when he calls me tonight from a much warmer location, I'll let him know about the internet. Love the pics!

Jan, the internet works fine on the basic free all day usage given, but there are lots of restrictions in place and things blocked. No biggie if it’s just emails, messenger / Whatsapp with browsing you need then it’s good enough. I seem to be lucky with getting unlimited WiFi. I had it on the Muse last June and Wind a year ago when they were testing. That was the best I’ve had. I even managed to stream live sports.

but.....I’ve had problems trying to upload a 55Kb excel sheet I was working on to the box cloud. Luckily it’s not actually a problem and once in port in HCMC hopefully I can tether my phone for free.

Gotta love Excel! I have some mighty spreadsheets, but none of them are going on vacation. The highest tech thing we are needing internet for is calling Canada and calling Upstate NY (not quite Canada, but edging it's way). We take tons of pics, so downloading those to the computer doesn't require internet, we're good! I'm just finishing all my fun stuff (like tax season) before we head out, so I will be computer free as much as possible. Do you want any pics of the Shangri La Kowloon? We'll arrive on Sunday evening before you get there on Tuesday.....

It wasn't excel.... "The box" is blocked. Unfortunately, it is the "fun stuff" for year end tax stuff I'm having to do.... or more to the point get the info sent processed and returned. Not too much fun, but not too difficult either thanks to the sheet I made in excel that does all the work for me and means an hours worth of work is now less than 5 mins and is actually mistake free!

Were not staying in Shangri la Kowloon (We have 4 nights booked elsewhere).... but have photos of the Singapore one if of use. The Garden tower is something else!

Just returned from Triv...... a creditable 2nd place from 6 teams...... Serious business is Triv! lol

Trivia is serious business! Did you have an international team? They always seem to do better than "all American" or "all Brit". Atleast with Jeremy & myself, you get Canadian & American, not worldly international, but Canada still counts as a foreign country. Plus, I am known to be the repository of useless information, works well in Accounting, even better in trivia.

Good luck with uploading your file for taxes. We had ours submitted a couple weeks ago. Just finishing the last few client ones before I depart. Must go feed the printer some paper, enjoy your evening!
