Has anyone done a taxi to Cable Beach and just sat on the public side? The Melia pics all look amazing but we dont want a resort cost and I hear they may not be doing day passes any longer....suggestions are welcome please. We are a family of 5 with 3 sons ages 18, 12, 12. Snorkeling from the beach, would be great, cost of taxi cab fare would also be appreciated.

The public beach next to Melia is accessible by a dead end road next to the hotel. Taxi drivers and jitney know where to drop you. The beach is public, so there is no maintainence, no raking, clean up, chairs or food/drink offerings.. and no lifeguards. You can bring your own chairs or put down a towel.

Here's the taxi rates http://www.bahamas-treasures.com/bahamas/Nassau_Taxi_Fares.html

Should be $30 plus tip for 5 ppl. One way.

You can take the #10 jitney for $1.25 pp. Just let the driver know where you want to get off.
