Hello,

We are cruising on the Carnival Dream in March. We will be driving in the day before from Michigan and are looking for A place to stay maybe a hour north of New Orleans. I am also planning on parking at the Fulton garage. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thank you

Don

If you plan on coming in via the Louisville, Nashville, and Birmingham route.... you will most likely be coming into Louisiana on I-59. The Hattiesburg, Mississippi (1h45m away) and Slidell, Louisiana (30-45 min) areas will be the 2 places that have most major hotel chains / brands.

If you like to gamble, there are several casino / hotels along the Mississippi Gulf Coast (Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, and Biloxi) that have nice hotels attached about 60-90 minutes away from New Orleans, where you might find great rates, depending on the night of your stay.

you show a less efficient route, I-57 is more efficient and more interesting. From Memphis you go south on 61 which allows visits to Clarksdale, Vicksburg, Natchez and St Francisville.

Feel free to show how your route is more efficient. This is the one that Siri, google, and Mapquest have.

When you enter Michigan departure and New Orleans arrival you come up with both routes and I know it's showing you that the route I suggest is something like a stupid 15 minutes quicker so you're just being infantile stop it.

Now you're just getting boring the Op has some information and they can figure out which way they want to go and if they want to make any stops. The fact that you need to be shown how to use MapQuest pretty much says everything.

You’re coming from the northwest corner of Michigan. I’m coming from Detroit. I bet OP is from the Detroit area.

The OP is driving down the day before...there is NO WAY that going via Memphis and down 61 is the best way. Even if they are coming from SW Michigan then I65 south to Indy then onto Birmingham and down I59 is the most efficient route. (I am sitting just outside Birmingham on I59/I20 as I type this having just driven up from La Place LA this morning.).

of course the OP asked for a place to stay NORTH of NOLA...NOT 80 miles west. Please try to keep up.

Thank you all for you input. We are coming from the south west part of Michigan( south east of Flint, North of Detroit) and are planning on coming in on 59, so I think either Hammond or Slidell will work. We are driving with my son and his family(3 yr old, 1 1/2yr old, wife), and were thinking that we would be able to get a better deal on a hotel if we stayed outside of the city. Because of work schedules we can not leave any earlier, so we would not be able to get in early enough to enjoy the city(Been to NO 3 times). Since we are just looking for a place to spend the night, would one be better than the other(Hammond vs Slidell)? Is there someplace in the NO area that would be just as reasonable? Just looking for a safe place(maybe a pool), since we planning on parking by the port, we do not need a park and sleep. Will be a great vacation, love spending time with the family. I am even looking forward to the car ride:)

Thank you in advance for your help.

Don

Try the Residence Inn by Marriott in Hattiesburg. A very clean well run hotel with the best free breakfast I have ever had at a hotel.

We stayed here the year the Super Bowl was in New Orleans and we were sailing out of N.O. on that Sunday. It was a breeze to drive in to New Orleans from Hattiesburg.

We always use http://www.machupicchutours.com/cruise-ship-parking for parking. Angel and his wife provide a wonderful service and the parking is secure and covered and Angel will get you to the port and pick you up without any hassle.

Boom! Just north of Detroit. 59 to Slidell. Just looking for a place to stay. Thank you for clearing that up, Don.

If you’re going to stay in Slidell I’d check out Country inn & suites or Wingate. Wingate has an indoor pool. Country inn & suites outdoor pool. Both have breakfast included but Country inn and suites has a bigger spread.

As for the parking I’ve done Fulton five times and it’s a good choice. If you want rooftop parking the total for 7 days is like $83 but you have to book online to get that rate. Covered would be 106. If you go to Machu Picchu it’s 110. Parking at the port itself is 140.

Is where you would book Fulton.

As I said in my original response, Hattiesburg, Mississippi (1h45m away) and Slidell, Louisiana (30-45 min) are going to be the 2 best areas for a decent price hotel on the most direct route.

The original poster clarified this when they said they are coming in via I-59. And since that is clarified, they could also look at the hotel rates in the Covington, LA area and take the Causeway into the city the next day.

It isn't 80 miles west you're making stuff up please try to keep up

The I10 exit for about the super dome is at mile marker 234....the mile marker for the I10/I12 split in B.R is 159.....this is 75 miles. I do this for a living......your should try to keep up. YOU don't know what you are talking about.
