On Avalon Rhine River Cruise late August. How are the tours provided by Avalon? Do you have any recommendations for ports of Breisach, Strasbourg, Rudesheim, Cologne or Amsterdam?
I was on Amawaterways but in Rudesheim I loved the coffee demonstration and the brandy tour. In Cologne, don't miss the Cathedral!

All of the included tours on Avalon cruises are wonderful but... if you find them not interesting, you can go off on your own. Just be certain you know when the ship is departing. At some ports you will have a choice of a couple of different included tours. You might walk from the dock right into town, or there may be a motorcoach on the dock to take you on a longer trip. They're all good. Just attend the pre-dinner briefing each evening where the Cruise Director will tell you what's happening the next day.

At some ports, you may decide to sleep a little later and just do your own thing for the day. That's okay, too.
