Government Shutdown?

Maybe longer lines, but that is it. The government does not fully shut down. CBP, TSA, FBI, TSA, are all working etc.. There will be "essential" employees at every single agency. The employees just might not be paid on-time.

If memory serves, back in 2013, the definition of "essential" didn't include "adequate for planned workload". Too many posts on Cruise Critic, but it seems there was a very minimum number of CBP officers at the ports of entry. That's been a while, and my memory could be wrong. And, as stated, they're working with no guarantee they'll be paid on time.

On the news tonight, they mentioned that people who are waiting for passports may have their travel plans endangered if there is a shutdown and it goes on for a few weeks.

Passport processors have never been declared essential. We have an acquaintance who was a senior staffer on a Congressman's staff during a shutdown in the 1990s. He tells the story of a rant by another Congressman during a committee meeting when he couldn't get a passport issued during the shutdown - and he had voted for it!

There will be very little disruption to any services. This president is not as vindictive as the last one, who shut down everything to hurt us. All agencies have money in reserve to cover a shutdown.

Uh, no. Some agencies or departments may have multi-year appropriations, and some may have non-appropriated funds through fee-based services, etc. Previous administrations (not just the most recent) have interpreted the law to prohibit expenditure of any appropriated funds in the absence of either an appropriation or a continuing resolution (which allows the "continuance" of expenditures at the previously appropriated levels). So, sorry, this is a well established precedent through administrations going back to probably Carter, if not earlier.
