Cruise ships generally berth within a 15 minute waterfront walk of the historic quarter, the major attraction there is the Diocletian's Palace. That area is all very walkable, though you need either a guidebook or a walking guide or good research if you want to understand what you see.

If you looking for an alternative tour of Split we can highly recommend this bike tour run by Meridien Ten.

The city bike tour lasts up to 3 hours and costs EUR 47,00 per person.

We had a wonderful guide who took us to places that you would necessarily go to on your own or with your usual city tours.

Our guide was wonderful and you learn so much more from a one on one tour with a local who is passionate about their city.

Try it

This information may not be helpful since it is so old, but we were there on a road trip in August 1977. Yes, 1977.

We saw an English speaking tour while we were in the main square and tagged along but were immediately ousted by the guide (which was appropriate). She directed us to the office right there where we were able to hire a guide for a tour for just the two of us which was excellent. Whether this office still exists, of course, is another question ... we will be looking for it next May (2018)!

Hello: 1. Can anyone recommend a tour company for this port?

2. Is the port close to "need to see"?

3. Can you do this port on your own?

Thank you we will be going on Celebrity Constellation next summer

This is what we did on on our own, buying local currency at the bureau de change outside the palace. All the best, Tony

We use 'Splitwalkingtour' and would recommend them. It was very informative and the guide was brilliant. He was happy to point out some of the Game of Thrones places as we went round as a couple of people were interested but catered to everyone's needs. I made up a small group and the cost was very reasonable.
