What beach?

We will be going to St. Thomas on November 26th on Adventure of the Seas.

Our plan was to go to Emerald Beach Resort. I asked on Facebook and they will not be open for business by then.

I believe Royal docks at Crown Bay. What would be some other options for beaches that aren’t too long if a taxi ride.

We would prefer someplace with restrooms, bar and food.

Also just curious how far it is from the cruise port to paradise point.

I would not count on any of the beaches being in good shape ! Getting around the island will be a problem for you guys. We are going in Dec. and will probably stay close to town which is cleaned up a lot. This will be the area that they have been working on. Meagan Bay is really in bad shape with only 2 buildings left standing and the beach in very bad shape!

Emerald will be a good beach for you if you are looking for a nice beach with facilities and food. It may take you a long time to get over there, given the fact that road cleanups may still be underway, and it may cost you more money than posters on here may tell you, as gas is scarce, and therefore more expensive, but you should be able to make it there. Just don't go expecting idyllic, crystal clear, soft white sand calendar photo beaches that you normally see, as the beach and island as a whole is still in the recovery process. You can still have a good day, and hopefully the island is in better condition than those around it, and that your experience has little hiccups. But, remember, they were just hit with two major hurricanes, so don't expect things to operate as smoothly as they usually do.

Actually Lindbergh Bay (aka Emerald Beach) is one of the few beaches that are currently polluted with enterococci bacteria and is definitely not to be used for swimming or fishing. The Emerald Beach Resort is also closed until at least mid-November and housing FEMA and other personnel.

So the resort may indeed be open late Nov, but obviously not a good suggestion with the current water condition. You should check the latest info on the blogs that are provided here and on other forums before making recommendations, or before heading to a particular beach. On a cruise stop you don’t want to rely on outdated information or waste time looking for an alternate beach after you arrive.

As noted earlier Sapphire is a good choice, and the water there has tested ok.

[EDIT] The water testing data can be found on the vinow dot com recovery blog, the results were obtained just this week. The water quality at all of the other popular beaches except Bolongo tested negative and if these beaches are open the water is ok, at least right now. Frenchman’s Bay, Limetree, Hull and Morningstar could not be safely accessed for testing and so the water quality is unknown. But of course if these beaches are not accessible they aren’t an option.
