I waited about 40 minutes for a bus on Wednesday (8/23) and when it arrived we couldn't board as it was too crowded. Another one came about 10 minutes later and we were able to board. The local people are really upset about the bus situation!!

Article about 72 buses out of 105 being out of service. That helps explain why the bus service has declined and the buses are crowded. Why the Minibus shuttles are the best option currently for Horseshoe.

We are going to Bermuda in September. We haven't been there for about 8 years. Thank you for the great heads up. I appreciate the information.

What a mess! Can certainly understand locals would also be having problems. :(

  • 4 weeks later...

Just returned and bus service was acceptable during the non-rush hour time windows but un-acceptable during what we would describe as rush hour.

We took the ferry to Hamilton, walked around and took the bus to the Aquarium. Stayed there until it closed at 5:00. Bus stop back to the bus terminal at Hamilton is right outside the Aquarium. Watched 5 busses heading outbound over the course of 90 minutes but only 1 heading inbound. That bus didn't even hesitate to stop.....just passed us by. Thankfully one bus did stop. Woefully over its human level but the driver stated that if she wasn't stopping to pick up folks then we probably would be standing out there for a few more hours.

Odd thing was that this was the end of her shift and we pulled into the bus depot (lack of a better description) for a replacement driver and there must of been 30 busses just sitting on the lot.

Be prepared if traveling with children as you may be spending some time dealing with the busses.

As for the beaches there are 15 passenger small busses taking folks on a ongoing basis. Believe fare is $7 per pax each way.

Additionally neither the Dock or Hamilton offices that sell the passes were accepting credit cards. Only cash.

Thanks for your up-to-date report on the bus service. I also just returned from Bermuda today, but did not ride any buses.

FYI, the mini buses providing beach transportation are not part of the public bus system. They're privately owned and operated. You are correct about the fare being $7 each way between Dockyard and Horseshoe bay.

Just got back Sunday.

We bused from St George's to Dockyard one night, leaving ST George's around 530pm (missed the ferry), walked on to the ship at 830pm. 3 hours.

Picked up a bus the day before outside of the Swizzle Inn to get to Hamilton.

Bus #1 was packed and after having watched a bus drive past every 20 minutes we decided to wait.

Bus #2- Out of service

Bus #3- Out of service

Bus #4- Four of us who had been waiting since first one us got on. We stood near the driver and had to get off at every stop to let folks off and I think it was stop 12 or so before we got to sit.

Ferries were great and on time.

With the public transit service doubling as the school bus service, late afternoon/early evening the buses were jammed.....when they finally arrived. One of our drivers was moving between routes as she was one of the few buses running that day.
