POA Kona Tender Questions

  1. Does anyone know how long of a tender ride this is?
  2. Based on past experience, when are the busiest times to try and get to shore. Our itinerary is 7am to 5:30 pm.
  3. Do they still give out tickets?
  4. Is last tender typically 30 minutes or one hour before Depart time (5:30)
  5. On the POA, are there a lot of stairs to get on/off tender? On the Dawn, there was a full flight of stairs outside of the ship to get down to the tender.
  6. With so many people having priority tender with Latitudes now, how do the priority tender tickets work/not work? We are Platinum. On one cruise, we were told to get at the end of the 3 floor line up the stairs. We didn't need tickets, but we had to walk up to find the end of the line to get into it.

Thanks!

Hi Alwalaska,

I can't answer everything but here's what I remember from last week. The tender ride itself was less than ten minutes. There was a set of stairs outside to get down before you step onto the tender. Folks that we're getting off at 7:30 to 8am did not need a ticket. If you are booked for a NCL excursion you meet at the Hollywood theater and go down as a group.

The last tender leaves at 5pm.

We were on the cruise a month ago and we had no excursion thru the ship or on our own so we ate a leisurely breakfast and waited for the open seat call. We were interested in kona coffee and rode the trolly along the shoreline up to the Sheraton resort and back to the tender location . Very enjoyable afternoon with fabulous coffee . The tender getting on and off was tricky for some but there were multiple guys there to assist the nervous ones . Well worth the time

Thank you. About what time did the open seat call come, if you remember?

We are renting a car, so not a fixed requirement for a time, but I'm trying to decide how much we want to try and do.

Thank you for this information. It is good to know about the stairs in case I am having a bad knee day. I was reading another thread where they were telling someone with a walker that they would be OK with the help of the workers getting on the tender. With the outside stairs, that seems a lot more limiting.

I think it was around 11 . My bil saw a woman slip and her leg went in the opening between the ship ramp and the tender . She lost her shoe but the guys were able to fish it out of the water . I don’t know how someone with a walker would make it down the ramp and onto the tender

If you are Platinum then the concierge will escort you if you want to the deck. (Platinum Latitudes members can breakfast in the steakhouse and the concierge is there every morning to make certain that you have your needs met. It was very helpful in Kona.) There is a long staircase to the tender. The tender ride itself is very short 7 or 8 minutes. We saw a pod of dolphin during our ride into port. Being Platinum members you will receive special information about the tender process the day before. It was painless even for my friend who has some mobility issues due to joint replacements.

I believe the tender tickets are for tours booked through the cruise line. We had a private tour booked so having the escort was easier for us especially since my friend was using an ECV/scooter on the ship. The crew was excellent in guiding and helping her on an doff the tender. We were able to leave the ECV/scooter on the deck where we boarded the tender.

Are you talking from experience here (regarding being platinum).

Platinum doesn't usually get breakfast in Cagneys etc. That is usually just for people who have booked Suites, and I have never heard of platinums getting these perks.

If you did get this then are you sure it was due to latitudes status, or anything else (i.e. were you in a suite).

I agree, these are suite perks, not platinum. There are hundreds of platinums on every sailing.

Have you been on this cruise, since your 2016 trip?

Yes we are.

Have you noticed, they have officially changed the itinerary now. No big Island. :(

Yes I did. NCL had originally said they may go back to the big Island after July 28th, but I guess they decided the danger was too critical.

ps, the Roll Call I set up died, do to lack of interest, and someone started a new one.

In case you haven't heard, the Big Island is back on for you. I'd love to hear from both of you when you get back since it will be long before I go in Feb.
