Beaches

We are thinking of a Paul Gauguin cruise next year and are wondering if there are beaches near the ports.

I’m not sure we would want to take a tour every day.

On Bora Bora and Motu Mahana of course you have easy access to beaches. On the other islands there are beaches accessible by excursion or with a bit of effort on your part. Not really good beaches right next to where the tender drops you off other than Bora Bora and Motu Mahana.

I was able to snorkel in the tuamotus from beaches within walking distance in 2011 while DH was diving.

Just reviewed my photos and I’m pretty sure you can do both. You are never far from the water. I didn’t want to sign up for an excursion that would take hours by boat. I was happy staying close to the tender ports. On rangiroa I think I was on the same beach that the crew uses. Just to the left from the tender.

In Fakarava if you walk along the only road there are many places to get in the water but most that we saw would require water shoes due to broken coral on the beach.

That does look like a great beach. Would you mind saying where it is and can one get there without taking an excursion
