River cruise aquarium rooms

We are thinking of an European river cruise, maybe on Avalon cruises. In order to save on costs, we are thinking of booking an aquarium room, but worried about the noises level. Aren’t they close to the engine rooms?

IME engine noise was a non issue (but only experience is Viking Longships) ... what you might here 'in the basement' that you'd not hear higher up is occasional water noise against the hull but this is never bothersome to us. We've been perfectly happy in aquarium rooms ... it can be fun to open the curtains in the morning and be greeted eye to eye by a goose!

We had a aquarium cabin on AMA. Likewise we didn't hear any engine noise just at times water lapping on the hull. Found it soothing not bothersome at all. Would not hesitate to book another aquarium cabin.

The only time I had an issue was on Uniworld's Vienna to Basel. I was in the most forward cabin and had an issue with the bow thrusters, which are used a lot to maneuver into locks, of which there are many on that route.

No issue with the room, location or any noise on our Uniworld cruise. What was an annoyance was the all the lower level cabins are on the same level as the crews, though separated with a door midship in the hall. The crew was constantly in the hallway coming and going. Alway crossing paths in the narrow hall. Always quiet and polite, but always there.

Take a look for a thread from about a month ago. Titled something like "Are river view rooms really that bad". A good majority of the posts were positive so I went ahead and booked one (Viking)

We were in "aquarium class" on Avalon Luminary last September and didn't mind at all. We weren't in our room much anyway. There wasn't any engine noise. We have booked that class again for next September.

We were on the Crystal Mozart in aquarium and had no trouble with noise. And we loved waking up to the swan families swimming by. We would have booked this category again on an upcoming UniWorld cruise but others had already took these cabins. So we don't get to commune with the swans.

You might hear some engine noises if you are on the lower deck and far to the rear of the ship. Other than that it shouldn't be a problem.
