QM2 in Southampton

Yes you 'll be permitted off the ship once it's cleared around 8 am. U.K. Does immigration on board during the week so you won't have to deal with it. They will offer a couple of trips but your free to go off on your own. Time back will be about 4:00. We tend to stay on ship in Southampton & take advantage of the mostly empty ship. But we've been there a bunch if times. Enjoy. Crossings are fabulous.

On a TA Hamburg-Southampton-New York we did a Cunard excursion to Stonehenge during the stop in Southampton. First time there and enjoyed it very much. This was during the fall of 2016.

same deal, we went to BATH ... was a good time. The weather would have meant staying ON the ship meant staying in side so doing something OFF was a better idea. Would have like Stnhdg but as I recall our day was something special associated with the place and I expected it to be SUPER packed ... passing the turnoff on the way back from BATH I could see that my decision was spot on ... the road in and out was bumper to bumper.

The shuttle bus from the cruise terminal takes you into Southampton town centre and drops you off right by the West Quay shopping centre which includes a John Lewis department store. Plenty of places to eat in the shopping centre or you can leave at one end onto main High Street where there are more shops and restaurants and pubs to have a snack.

I've read posts about how long the boarding process takes at each of the ports prior to departure. If you get off at Southampton (I'm on a TA crossing which continues on to Hamburg), will I need to get back in line with those joining the ship in Southampton? Or is there a "special" line for passengers who've already been on the ship for the crossing from NY?

If it’s similar to last year, all the passport formalities are dealt with during the crossing (took about 10 minutes) so there were no additional for passport checks in port (before or after the shore excursion).

There was a wait at our next port (Le Havre) and passport stamps before and after the excursion. That will likely be the case at Hamburg - hopefully not repeated back in Southampton

Has anyone done the Windsor tour on the day in Southampton? We're thinking of doing either that or Winchester? We want the chance to explore something during our 8 hours in England! :-) Would love thoughts/suggestions.

We will be on the QM2 roundtrip from NY in July and would like to know if there is enough time in port and is it allowable to get off in Southampton to see some of the city.

When are you traveling? We'll be on the roundtrip beginning on July 20. Hoping to go to Windsor on our day in Southampton.

How was the Cunard tour? Any suggestions or comments?

My only complaint on the Winchester tour was that it was too short - the tour bus got us back to the ship in time for lunch.

Our next cruise features two Southampton turn around days - one of them will include a longer excursion (and the other one likely to be a DIY excursion day)

I was on QM2’s July 2017 roundtrip New York transatlantic voyage. I participated in Cunard’s excursion to Windsor on the turn around day.

We left the ship at about 7:00 a.m., and the bus trip took about two hours. Arriving in Windsor, we parked in the coach lot adjacent to the train station. The guide, who had met us in Southampton, escorted us through the town on the approximately 20 minute walk to the entrance line for Windsor Castle, distributed the entrance tickets for the castle tour, guided us through security, took us to the stand where we were equipped with an electronic guide to the castle, and then accompanied us to the castle entrance. After that, we were free to follow the recorded narration of the castle on our own at our own pace.

According to how long you chose to visit the castle, there was free time to visit St George’s Chapel, browse in Windsor and/or have lunch. We had to make our own way back to the bus by 2:00 p.m.

Arriving back at Southampton terminal, you proceed through the terminal directly to security, show you ship card, and board after going through security.

I found the trip enjoyable but really too short a time in Windsor.

Thanks! That helps a lot!
