HOU to Port of Galveston, what would you do?

Flying into Houston Hobby the day before, 4 adults, one toddler. Not crazy about the area around the airport hotels.

Could stay near the airport, uber somewhere for diapers and baby supplies (instead of shlepping them on the plane), find dinner somewhere and then get a service to take us to the port. This seems to run about $265 plus any uberring we use. Or we could rent a car, drive down the highway to stay outside of Houston in a better area with shopping and food nearby and park at the port. This alternative would be about $225 for a car (plus gas) and $65 to park. Having a car would give us some flexibility but time spent renting and returning the car, handling our own luggage, etc.

Any opinions?

We recently stayed at SpringHill Suites adjacent to HOU last month arriving the day prior to sailing. Their shuttle driver drove us to Walmart, to a restaurant for dinner, etc. for no charge other than tipping him. We then took an UberXL to he Port the next day for right around $100 split 4 ways and then $115 coming back to HOU post cruise.

That's awfully high. You can ride with Galveston Express for $25 per person and hold the toddler in your lap free of charge. You might also consider staying at Hampton Inn & Suites on the island as it is right across the street from Walmart and a block from the water and restaurants. It might be a little more for a room but you would save on the Uber fees and you wouldn't need a rental car unless you just want one.

Cruise Connection would take you from Hobby to Galveston Hotels for $22pp. They do have a fixed schedule, so you need to book a particular time. In our case we only had 20 minutes from plane scheduled arrival and we still made it to the limo pickup with 10 minutes to spare. Only had two people in 11 person van and they dropped us off right in front of Harbor House. There is a Trolley stop two blocks south on Strand that will take you down to the beach for $1pp and connect to another along the seawall.

I too am looking into information on getting from our hotel near Houston Hobby, Springhill Suites I believe, to the port and then back to the airport after the cruise. I have heard about Cruise Connection as well, but was hoping someone might have some comments about them. Otherwise it seems like Emanuel at VIP Express is leading in positive comments.
