Should 30-something couple get dived certified before cruise?

My husband and I booked for the 7 day July 9 Carnival Miracle to Western Caribbean, our first cruise. We considered scuba dive certification in the past, but never seriously. We have enough time before the cruise for certification, but are uncertain if it is only the momentum of general excitement carrying us forward. Any thoughts on first dives on first cruise?
