My experience with insurance

I am booked for 14 nights cruise. Originally booked solo but my BF was able to join me this time. We bought separate policies. Since we don't live together insurance companies said we need to apply separate. Used insure my trip and found a very reasonable price for a policy that will cover us for all the normal things (delay, interruption, etc.) as well as medical. I'm just happy that since the casino comped our cruise (we only each paid port charges) the medical portion coverage (as primary insurance) is not just based on the amount we paid. Haven't had to make a claim and hopefully never will but am happy the way the coverage is written. The policy is with Travel Insured.

Right.

We also use Travel Insured, but purchase our policies through Trip Insurance Store.

(And the good news is that they pay claims promptly, which is good news IF one needs to make a claim, but the better news would be not to need to make a claim, of course!)

But we also noticed how one gets the same medical coverage regardless of the cost of the trip.

We get the waiver of pre-existing condition exclusion, so we need to include *all* non-refundable costs. But getting something like you have, with the comped costs, yup, that would make the insurance a much better "deal" in terms of the medical.

The only thing that might not be quite so good, at least for the TI policy type we get, is for the "travel interruption" coverage. Our policies provide 150% coverage for that, as trip interruption can actually cost more than trip cancellation. (One might have lots of lost pre-paid costs *and* also have expensive last-minute flights home, etc.)

So... there might be not be a large limit to cover that particular problem fully.

We've got sort of the similar situation when we use frequent flyer awards to get long-haul premium airfare.

IF we had to fly home early, switching the awards (modest fee, which would be covered) to a different date and on very short notice, it might be almost impossible to do, at least in premium (First or Business).

IF there were seats available for "cash", those tickets would cost a fortune in some cases, and the total coverage might not come close. Or it might not come close if we also needed reimbursement for significant lost trip costs.

Yes, I understood that and it would be the pits if we had to fly somewhere. Coverage would definitely not be enough. But wondered if we said we paid more and didn't if anything would be covered anyway. I mainly focused on the medical/emergency evacuation parts of the policy. Anyone with personal knowledge know? Maybe with frequent flyer miles, they at least pay a redepos fee?
