Porter shortage at Vancouver cruise terminal

Recommended Posts

We’re at the cruise terminal and were told they had only one porter and it was reserved for wheelchairs. Luggage carts were standing empty, but I was forbidden to borrow one.

I also got an email from the state department about terrorist alert for Vancouver. So that may explain the porter shortage.

That State department alert appears to be worldwide based on recent developments in certain parts of the world - it's a warning for US Citizens to be on guard.

As for porters - they normally start work for embarking cruisers around 9:30 - 10:00 - from the time stamp on your post you arrived way to early - the porters are most likely to be helping with the disembarkation.

The porters used in Vancouver are well paid longshoremen.

Enjoy your cruise and sunny sail-away.

Cheers!

Dennis

Wow - umm, not sure how to respond to this except to say that the "alert" has gone out to other cities, not just Vancouver, as part of a "global terror alert", and nothing has happened recently that should cause any fear - or fearmongering. We watch and read the news every day in the Vancouver area and rest assured, no one is on extra high alert or being over cautious in the city.

Not sure why there is a "porter shortage" - what time did you get there? There are two ships in today (May 11); perhaps you arrived extra early?

EDITED - Hey Dennis, we said pretty much the same thing. :)

Alert is likely about the shift in the location of the US embassy in Israel and world wide.
