Piano bar on Veendam

Very popular! We saw crowds there every evening on our way out of dinner, and many passengers raved about it.

I might also mention that ALL the music was fabulous on our recent Veendam cruise. Ocean Bar had pianist Harvey, and a bassist and a percussionist who were wonderful. Much dance music, and occasionally some jazz. Our favorite spot.

The Band, 6 members, was also excellent. They played in Crows Nest as well as in many of the shows.

The classical duo, in Explorers Lounge, were quite popular.

Our only, minor, disappointment musically was that the DJ was unfamiliar with Latin music, and was not able to play dance music for the many Latin dancers onboard without being given song titles.

Overall, we thought Veendam had the best music of any recent (since 1990's) cruise.

We are missing the piano bar Hal are getting rid of, hows the piano bar on Veendam :p

Sadly, you're right that HAL has eliminated most of their Piano Bars, with the rest scheduled to go, too. They have either been converted to The Mix on the smaller ships, or Billboard Onboard on the larger ones. Veendam has The Mix.

Like it was when there was a piano bar, how The Mix is depends entirely on who is entertaining in there. Some are better (some are MUCH better) than others.

But, it is now more of a performance venue than the spontaneous party that the old Piano Bars used to be. :(

Just returned from Veendam cruise. The piano bar is right next to Mix. Our favorite place is the Ocean Bar. Harvey at the piano and clarinet, also a bassist and drummer. Harvey and crew played a great variety of music and Harvey has an easy and pleasant interaction with guests. It's hard to believe that HAL is getting rid of these spaces. Billboard and BBKing on larger ships are not conducive to the kind of atmosphere that the Ocean Bar provides. Wish HAL would rethink this change--it is NOT one for the better.
