Any place to smoke a cigar on Empress of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Hi All-

We will be on the Cuba Immersion cruise in Sept. and I'm wondering if I will be allowed to light up and sample what I buy ashore in Cuba. Is there a designated cigar lounge on the Empress?

Thanks,

Paul

For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests do smoke. Therefore, to provide an onboard environment that also satisfies smokers, we have designated certain areas of the ship as smoking areas.

Cigarette, cigar, e-cigarette and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas of the starboard side of all ships; with the exception of Oasis-class ships that will allow smoking on the port side of the ships. To assist in locating areas where smoking is permitted, guests will find visible signage posted within all smoking areas and ashtrays that are provided for use. Outdoor areas near restricted areas, food venues, and kids play areas and pools will not allow smoking. On Oasis class, smoking is not permitted in Central Park or the Boardwalk neighborhoods.

Casino Royale allows smoking and has a designated area for non-smoking guests. There will be visible signage indicating the non-smoking area in the casino. There are select cruises departing from China that will not have a non-smoking area in the casino.

Onboard all interior public spaces are smoke free*. Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, theater, bar, lounge, hallway, elevator, and jogging track.

Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom and any stateroom balcony. This applies to all stateroom categories onboard. If a guest is in violation of this stateroom policy, a cleaning fee of $250 USD will be applied to their SeaPass® account and may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of the Guest Conduct Policy.

Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. Cigar and pipe tobacco is limited to designated outdoor areas and Cigar Bars**. You must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard.

Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes are only permitted within the designated smoking areas.

Royal Caribbean International kindly asks all guests to please observe the smoking policy. These requests are made to provide a comfortable cruise for everyone. Guest may also inquire at Guest Services for the location of the designated smoking areas onboard.

Guests who violate this smoking policy may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of this Guest Conduct Policy.

While there is no indoor lounge, the outdoor experience on the Cuban cruises may be acceptable. My understanding is that they (or at least some of the itineraries) stay in port for longer periods of time, perhaps even over night in Havana. My experience has been that as long as the ship is not moving, or at least not moving fast, smoking out doors is fine.

Thanks Cigar King

Yes I assume evening weather is fine around Cuba to smoke a cigar in, if it's not raining or too windy or the ships doing 18+ knots.

HAL lets you smoke by the Sea View Bar which is aft outdoors but somewhat protected and it has a bar.

Is smoking on the very top deck of the ship? I'll look around the deck plans a little more.

Enjoy the cruise. I haven't been to Cuba yet, although I have been enjoying their products for decades. ;-)

Although not a smoker, here’s another vote for the aft deck. It’s sheltered and not windy. Furniture is better than the average deck stuff. Almost like a real lounge. I’m guessing RCCL anticpated the need for this based on itinerary.

I was very impressed how the line avoided the corporate formula to make the best use of the smaller and older Empress of the Seas.

We did a 4 night Cuba cruise on Empress in October of 2017 and there was a Cigar pairing with Liquors in Bolero's during sail away and cigar smoking was allowed on the aft deck during this time, Starboard side. It was great sailing out of Havana Harbor with a Cuban Cigar and Cognac. There was only 2 of us participating...myself and the ships comedian. We had a great time. It seemed to be you could smoke in that area at other times as well. Hope this answers your question.

We sailed Empress last May to Cuba and the open deck area past Boleros was designated as a smoking area. One could smoke cigars there. There were large comfortable chairs, plenty of ash trays and that great view of the wake.

Not sure if that area still allows smoking. As noted, no smoking in the Empress casino, or al least that was the case last year. .
