Casino Smoke

Recommended Posts

Problem is on many ships you can not go around the Casino, you have to travel threw it on that deck...

Going up a deck is an option. I'm sure the lady I saw on the previous cruise with a scarf wrapped around her nose and mouth waving her hands while walking through the casino would have appreciated that thought.

Haha - yup, I do that all the time to avoid crowds (and the woman with the scarf waving her hands)

Celebrity is the only line I know of with smoke free casinos. Does anyone know of any others?

P&O are smoke free in all public spaces inside the ship and in cabins. They have even banned e-cigarettes as well.

Thanks Bob

I'll say it one more time... the real problem is not players who are smoking, but that the casino is designated as the only indoor smoking venue. No way to tell about lost revenue, but from my perspective, the smokers using the casino as the smoking room are driving away the non smoking revenue players. And, from my observation, those using the casino for smoking only ( yes, I know that is allowed) are not generating revenue. In fact, they are causing more loss than just driving away the nonsmoking players, the "smokers only" are using the slot machine chairs, causing machines that would normally be played to not have any revenue.

Hey RCCL - how about flipping the non smoking space with the smoking space. There is generally more smoking space in the casino.

Anyone remember years ago when formal night was also non smoking in the casino? That was nice.

I know I'm adding to an old thread, but to respond to an earlier post asking whether other ships aside from Celebrity have smoke-free casinos... Holland America is on its way. It is banning smoking as it renovates its ships. The new ships prohibit smoking, and we just got off the Nieuw Amsterdam, which was also blissfully smoke-free. They're up to 5-6 ships that now prohibit smoking. Not only happy news for the casino goers, but for the piano bar players across the open hallway.

We've sailed on RC a few times and thoroughly enjoyed the experience except for the heavy smoke in the casinos. We're trying Celebrity this March solely because the casino (and most of the ship) is smoke free. Someone recently on FOS told me he'd been told RC is considering going smoke free in its casinos. Has anyone else heard this?

Ships should be totally smoke free. Do they know how many people die from second hand smoking ?

Just got off Adventure OTS yesterday and sailed her last year also. The casino is located right next to the Schooner Bar on Deck 4. Deck 3 does not go through forward to aft so to avoid walking through the casino we had to go to deck 5, walk through and go down. Even though the casino has smoking areas, the entire casino is affected. There are six or so tables in the Schooner Bar right at the edge of the casino and if you don't like the smell of smoke you cannot sit there.

Plus the cigarette stench raises up to the Promenade Deck from the casino where the stairs are.

Saying that there is a 'non-smoking' area in the casino is like saying there is a non-peeing area in a pool. Smoke or urine, both substances will filter through the entire area polluting the whole thing.

Then why not alcohol free?

Many people die from alcohol use?

They restrict smoking to certain areas, so stay away from them.

I am not a smoker, but my SO is. If Royal goes smoke free, we will be unable to sail with them. Good thing there are other lines.

I remember someone using that tired old alcohol excuse nearly 30 years ago at a large group meeting for an organization to which I belong. My response was that no one is forcing a funnel down your throat and pouring unwanted alcohol into it. OTOH, smoking in my presence is forcing the deadly effects of your smoking into my body. Huge difference.

It’s just a matter of time until RC goes smoke free in the casinos. Personally I can’t wait. My last cruise on Freedom the Schooner Bar was always smoky because of smoke billowing out of the casino.

Can’t compare alcohol to smoking. We may choose not to drink. Second hand smoke is bad for everyone. Don’t smell the stench of alcohol like we do of smokers. The stench smells up our clothes.

People use the Casino as an indoor smoking area and are not even playing.

I would love an alcohol free cruise but that will never happen. The cruise industry makes too much money from selling alcohol.

A friend of mine died from lung cancer in 2015.Ne never smoked but his wife did .

Azamara also has smoke free casinos. It is owned by RCI and diamond status transfers. However, they are small ships, 680 pax, and their newest, Pursuit, is losing the casino in refit.

I am a smoker, and I'm also a gambler and I do smoke in the allowed areas within the casino. I also enjoy those RCL ships that have a connoisseur club, where I have a designated indoor smoking lounge....

Just my opinion...

You don't have to deal with second hand alcohol.
