Punta Arenas: Magdalena Island ferry, speedboat info request

I checked a ferry website on line for tickets and saw no prices. To reserve tickets you had to submit a completed online form and they stated there was no guarantee that you would get tickets. I am just starting to research this and hoped someone had already been there done that and could save me some time.

What company did you use to go to Magdalena Island? Did you take the speedboat or the ferry? Has anyone taken either the ferry or the speedboat without going through a tour agency?

Did this tour using the cruise ship excursion program. It was expensive. I think twice the cost of the ferry, but we felt well worth it.

First, it is half the time in transit. Second, the island is far, far quieter. We tour almost alone, then as we were ending our visit the ferry and the masses arrived. Third, it included the “drive by”of another island to view wildlife. And, finally you are back ashore in time for some port time.
