Local Tour Guides in Budapest and Prague?

We have booked Uniworld's Delightful Danube and Prague river cruise for next summer (going Budapest to Prague). We are traveling with another couple and plan to add our own extensions at each end - probably 2 - 3 days each. Would appreciate any recommendations of local tour guides in those cities that you have used and were happy with. We are more interested in private tours but are open to a group if well recommended. Thank you for any suggestions (or cautions of any to avoid;)).

If you are interested, there is a series of you tube videos called honest guide to Prague...or something like that. A young man showing the best of his home town as well as things to watch out for (tourist traps, cheats, etc.)

It is a lovely city.

We used Budapest Locals in Budapest. We had a wonderful private guide! I highly recommend them. Check out their reviews on Trip Advisor.

In Budapest check out http://www.privatetoursbudapest.com/. Garbriella is great. privatetoursbudapest@gmail.com In Prague Jana Pehe is also great. http://www.guidingprague.com/en/our-private-guides-1/jana-pehe.htm

pehe@seeprague.cz

Both great guides we have used and recommended to friends. Everyone who has used them loves them.

We have used Tours by Locals in a few cities... Have been very pleased, as you are able to customize your trip.

Also, they charge per tour - so the cost drops if there are 4 of you.

If you are interested in some amazing photos of Prague, look into Johnny's Prague photo tours. He will take you all over, night or day and help you come home with some wonderful photos.

We are currently on a cruise out of Budapest. We had an excellent tour guide in Budapest for a full day private tour last week. Her name is Szilvi Hennig. Szilvi was recommended to us and the praise of her was spot on. She is bright and knowledgeable and extremely personable. She conducted a full day private guided tour for us at a reasonable price. She was flexible about what we did and she worked with me on restaurant suggestions and other sites I should see on other days we were in Budapest. Her email is Hennigszilvi@yahoo.com

Catherine

PS. On Uniworld right now and loving our river cruise.

Rebel54 - I will check out Johnny's website. And the Taste of Prague sounds like something we'd also enjoy! Thank you.

clcmdse - Thank you for the information about Szilvi Hennig. Envious that you are on Uniworld right now!

Hands down for the most professional, accurate private guides, look into Context Travel. They use Masters or phd level guides, usually from the universities. We use them in Budapest and Prague.

We love this level of information so well we have used them in Rome, Florence, Naples, Venice, Amsterdam, Montreal, Sydney, and are signed up for 4 in Japan. Contemplating one in China if we have time on our next Viking cruise. They will give you extra help and guidance if you need it too.

Just off our Uniworld trip from Budapest to Prague and thrilled to have done it. We second (or third) Taste of Prague as the best city food tour we have ever taken. And we have taken a number. Excellent food choices. Well organized and well worth the price. Not only are they passionate foodies on the tour, they were extremely helpful in recommending restaurants via email to me for our five day stay in Prague that was not on their tour.

clcmdse - So glad to hear that you liked this cruise. Were you on the SS Beatrice? We will definitely keep Taste of Prague on our short list of things to do. Did you take any other city tours that you recommend?

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit in Prague!

We took a day tour with Prague Old Car...Historical Car Sightseeing Tour in Prague (42115P2)

http://www.pragueoldcar.com/en/tours. Definitely a highlight!

Also took a food tour with a company that we have used a few times before in Europe. Great fun and fantastic food! We prefer the evening food tours. https://www.eatingeurope.com/prague-food-tours/

In Budapest we used Andrea Makkay: http://www.privateguidebudapest.com/ Perfect day, we loved her!!

In Prague, twice, we used Jana Hronkova.....janahronkova@hotmail.com She does Rick Steves tours now and if she's not available she will refer you to a friend.

We found both of them through Rick Steves and were very happy.
