oldbonnets42 Posted April 23, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2018 We have taken 3 cruises with American Cruise lines and enjoyed them .We prefer small ship cruising to the big ones. We were scheduled to take the cruise from Jacksonville to Charleston this Saturday. We had to cancel due to my husbands adventure with a kidney stone and scheduled surgery. This of course happened this week. When we cancelled we faxed a letter from the urologist , verifying this unplanned medical need to cancel. When I bought the policy, I was NOT informed that if you cancel within 9 days of the trip, the "for any Reason" does NOT apply and you will only be offered a 70% voucher , for another cruise. Which must be taken, not booked , but taken within 1 year of being issued. also subtracted from what is figured in the 70% is the cost of the Protection Plan and $250. fee per person administration. Nothing listed that we want til next May. We have traveled fairly extensively, and the only 2 times we have had to cancel, due to a verified medical problem, at the last minute , we had no difficulty receiving a full refund! Especially being seniors these issues may be more likely to happen. Needless to say I doubt that we will be traveling with them again, and I recommend if you do, BOOK YOUR OWN Comprehensive Trip insurance!
LDVinNC Posted April 23, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2018 Sorry to hear about this and hope your husband is okay. It's the fine print that gets you. Yes, we are supposed to read the policies we purchase but there is so much gobbledy-gook that it is hard to do so.

Yes, we are supposed to read the policies we purchase but there is so much gobbledy-gook that it is hard to do so. This cannot be overstated. The more something costs, the better it is to skip doing/buying something rather than paying for it without reading every last bit of information, and all the terms and conditions, about what you're buying.
