What to do with one day in Victoria BC in July

Recommended Posts

We are on a ship arriving July 10 - there are 4 of us and we have never been there before. Any recommendations for a great 1 day itinerary? We would consider hiring a private guide as well if you have any great recommendations.

Since all we know about you is that there are 4 of you, but nothing about what you enjoy/hate, how mobile you all are, can you drive a rental car, can you all ride bikes etc etc etc the only rational advice is to look for pre-existing 'Joe Q Public' itineraries. Tripadvisor is a great resource for that - not just the 'top ranked' sights in various categories, but you will also find posts specifically covering '1 day in City X' - often ...with/without Kids, ... for Seniors, or other subsets of people that might match your traveling group.

Four of us used EV Tours last August and were very pleased. We booked a 5 hour tour. Our guide was John, who is a trained biologist. He took us on a comprehensive tour of neighborhoods, historic sights and Butchart Gardens. You can read my review on TripAdvisor. Money well spent.

All depends on what you are interested in.

Victoria is home to some famous botanical gardens. Bucharest being the largest. It is a bit out of the city so transportation is needed.

The city is the capital of the Canadian province of British Columbia so there is legislature buildings, the Royal British Columbia Museum etc. It has quite an old downtown core and has managed to retain many of the old building. Lots of restaurants, pubs, independent shops, smaller museums etc. It has a very British feel to it.

It is a short walk from where the ship docks to the downtown core.

Victoria BC is a beautiful city and very pedestrian friendly. I'd suggest that you take a stroll from the cruise port along the waterfront (Dallas Road) to Beacon Hill Park, walk through the gardens and then into town. Visit the Royal Provincial Museum and the downtown area. Return to the cruise port via the David Foster pathway.

Butchart Gardens are beautiful and quite extensive. We went in the spring and the tulips were fantastic. I'm sure summer looks just as pretty. Here are photos from spring a couple years back.
