From "Know Before You Go" (January 2018, p6):

PETS

With the exception of qualified service animals for guests with

disabilities, animals or pets are not allowed on board our ships.

If you plan to bring a service animal, you must call our Access &

Compliance Department. (For contact information, please see page

9.) You will need to provide health certificate documentation for the

animal in your ports of call.

Keep the cage covered when you and the parrot are out and about on the ship. Covering the cage usually keeps birds quiet. Or if you don't carry the parrot in its cage, get it one of those hoods falconers use to calm their birds. (I don't think you can gag a bird...)

And shame on you for the language you let it learn!!!!

So, let's say I have a service parrot who comforts me in times of stress. Do you think Holland America will let him board with me? He does have a bit of a salty tongue.

Only if he meets the official pirate jargon requirements, lol. Take good care of him on the ship. We don't want him "pining for the fjords", now do we?;p

According to the ADA...

To determine if an animal is a service animal, you may ask two questions:

  1. Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?
  2. What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?

Well ..............

Substituting just two words makes this easy.

"Is the parrot a service animal required because of an INABILITY (to tell fellow passengers off)?"

"What work or task has the parrot been trained to perform? The parrot has been trained to say "No jeans on Gala Night! Wear your robe in your room!"

Hahahaha OMG, you're a genius. Has the parrot also been trained to collect snacks in its beak as you walk through the Lido?:D

Sorry, no. They wouldn't accept my Service Sloth. He smiles all the time and soothes my anxiety, but no go.

LOL. He does say, "hey buddy, fetch me a drink!" I think he is cruise-ready.

Thank you for starting a very fun cruising thread, enabling us to bring out our latent lunacy:D

I know this is a joke, but it is important to differentiate between a comfort and service animal. Comfort animals are not allowed, while service animals are according to the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). That said, ADA does not allow for documentation to be requested or that the animal demonstrate any level of training.
