In case anyone is interested CLEAR is doing a free 3 month promotion. SEA has CLEAR and it combined with TSA PRE makes transiting security take 2 or 3 minutes. The offer I got in email is attached.

I don't get anything for this nor do I work for CLEAR :) .

You also can get a discounted price on CLEAR if you are a Delta sky miles member. I didn't know this when I initially signed up and wasn't very happy when Clear refused to honor my membership after the fact. None the less, the CLEAR service can be a real time saver at some airports, like Denver.

I also just joined Priority Pass which allows access to a lot of airport lounges all over the world. As I recall it's $99 per year and $25 per visit. I would have used it in November as we had a long layover at HKG. But Cathay Pacific upgraded us to Business Class so we got access any way.

Will this auto renew if you don't cancel?

Yes...it says that if you don't cancel prior to the end of the 3 months you will be charged for the next year.

As VideoTech mentioned, Delta Medallion members get a discount (Diamond members actually get it free).

It is definitely a time saver at airports like SEA when the TSA PRE lines can be pretty long in the summer.

I’ve considered Clear. But I’ve never been in line for TSA pre check very long. From entering the airport and through security, takes me about 10 minutes. I’m OK with that since I’m usually way early anyway

Agreed, TSA Pre has been fast enough for me. I guess if I flew more frequently from an airport that used CLEAR it might be worth it.

TSA Pre is only $85, good for 5 years. The last 20+ times we've flown our time at TSA has been about 2 -3 minutes, hardly slow down.

I agree...PRE is usually good enough and certainly a better value but I have seen very longs lines at SEA. I would just suggest paying a couple of dollars more and getting Global Entry which comes with PRE and also lasts for 5 years (and lots of credit cards and frequent flyer programs will pick up the tab).

One further advantage of Global Entry is that I think it's beginning to make an appearance a some of the major cruise ports. I have it for reasons of international air travel, but I've heard people mention seeing Global Entry at cruise ports now too.

Doesn't seem to have taken off at the cruise ports like the airports. No cruise port kiosks like the airports. I do like GE (only used it once at SFO), but it's limited to incoming international, mostly air, travel. Unless you do a lot of incoming international travel not sure it's worth the cost. We only got it because we got SENTRI passes and GE was included for free.

Also, when driving back from Canada you can use your Global Entry card in the Nexus lane.

What is CLEAR? How does it work and why do we want it?

CLEAR is a biometric TSA confirmation system which essentially lets you skip all TSA lines including Precheck. UNless you travel a lot it might not be worth paying for but if you are travelling this summer signing up for a free trial might be.

I would love to try Clear out of Seattle since we have a relatively early flight. We are also sailing out of NYC (LGA) at the end of Sept. Do you happen to know if this promotion is available every month. Thinking if I could use this in July I could also use again in Sept. Thanks for the answers

Not exactly, it's pretty much a separate TSA Pre-Check lane or a third security lane to the screening machines. You still have to stop at the TSA podium, show boarding pass, and ID. When I have watched how it works at SFO there is a CLEAR "escort" at the entrance to the CLEAR lane who walks you to the TSA officer in front of anybody else in either the Pre-Check or regular lane.

CLEAR was around before Pre-Check. I know at SFO it only works at international departures.

I was able to get the discount after the fact. I called Clear and they credited my card the difference when I found out I could get a reduced rate. Only had to give them my Skymiles #. Did you call or e-mail?

I get e-mails from Clear with this promo quite often. I just looked back and I get one at least every three months. Sometimes every month or two.

I fly out of SFO and Clear is up and running in all terminals, including domestic. With bay area traffic as bad as it is, it's a huge time saver. Especially when the Pre-Check line is just as long as the regular line.
