Does anyone know the history behind YVR's gates 90-96? They are located in what seems to be the next county' date=' and were designed with small planes in mind.[/quote']

Correct - short range and/or smaller aircraft for trans-border flights. Think YVR-SEA or YVR-PDX or other routes that merit a smaller aircraft for load considerations.

PDX→YVR for the flight over' date=' YVR→SEA for the flight back.[/quote']

There is a constant stream of Q400 between YVR and SEA and PDX. They mostly operate out of that area.

The master plan for YVR has that area being demolished and replaced with another pier to handle larger aircraft. That would still be several years out.

When was it first constructed?

It has been around for quite some time (perhaps since 2000 or so), I think it was intended as a temporary extensions in it does not have the same fancy lighting, and glass as the rest of the airport.

The Portland and Seattle routes use to be Dash-8 100 and 300 routes. More recently they have switched over to Q400.

There are exception. Back in the 90s I remember flying on Air Canada/BC Air BAe 146 on that route. Alaska sometimes runs 737 on the route and delta usually runs a CRJ-700/900. However it is dominated by the Dash-8.
