Rules? There are rules to how we discuss? I do like to talk about Sally now and then because she is a babe. But I don't like to use our real names because I like to go commando now and then and people who know tend to stare.

I agree that forum rules should be followed. I just don't think what the OP asks about should be considered a disruption to the community. But then, like some others, I don't understand the issue, so could be missing something I suppose.

Can see using names in roll calls but just answering a question won't bother.

If you post A LOT maybe people might start to learn your names.

I don't get those who tell people on here to say hello to a certain crew/staff member weeks later. These crew/staff are dealing with hundreds of new people per sailing. You really had to have made a big impression to be remembered 2-3+ weeks later just by name alone.

luckyinpa, I think many do it to be courteous. It's always a nice way to start things out IMHO. I do the same on e-mails while some don't.

 

Some of us have actually meant many people from CC through our travels.

 

Not a high percentage since CC population is so big but I am sure I have met a couple of thousand people from CC over the years.

Indeed, yes, Keith . I have had the pleasure of meeting a number of CC posters on various ships through the years. I met one lovvely couple frrom Boston (my home) with whom I am still in touch. We spoke on the phone last week.

I have met ships' officers because they recognized from my posts enough informatiion they guessed my name on the manifestt when t I had posted I was sailing their ship on a given d ate. :)and introduced themselves. I have always treasured those meetings. :)

I've been on CC so long, that I've met a number of CC'ers.

Some people are lonelier than others and like to be acknowledged, remembered etc. It doesn't hurt anyone if a few talk to each other.

I do sometimes get the feeling that some posters seem to be posting simply for the benefit of their friends on the site, but I also respect that there is a core group of long time members who have put in the time to make this site what it is, and if they feel like they can run the place, then who am I to stop them!

I've not really noticed it other than on the "Roll Call" threads, where it does seem to be appropriate.

I don't use my real name here. And when I post replies to people I've met in person, I'll use their Cruise Critic handle and not their real names.
