re meat pies

No doubt you called in at a few truck stops for a giant truckies mixed grill. Had a few of those, escorting the wide loads, circa late 1960's, and throughout the 1970's.

The servo cafes, Golden Fleece etc used to have a dining area out the back for the truckies and coach drivers, all the meals were double the size of what the normal traveller got, and a ton of chips with every feed.

Those were the days my friend.:halo:

Two of the best spots were Kangy Angy, near Gosford and Goulburn.

When I’m travelling I still look for anywhere with lots of trucks, you know the tucker will be good and plentiful.

The pie shop at Heatherbrae is just up the road from Francis Drake at the roundabout, I’m not sure what pies the6 do gluten free but will try and remember to have a look next time I’m up that way, I like their steak and veg pie.

I was going to mention Kangy Angy truck stop. Been there a few times, taking the big loads up to the Hunter when they were building the power stations, circa 1970, Liddell etc. Thanks for info on the pies, will google them old son.

$7 for a pie is too much IMO.

Indeed Mic. But they have a captive audience. I am one of their captives.:o

Like the cruise lines selling grog on the ships, they have a captive audience as well.:loudcry:

But it is like petrol, you gotta have it.

Can you imagine what level of take up there would be if a ship offered a mixed grill ?

Dammit even typing that makes me hungry!!!!!

Actually P&O UK served a mixed grill for luncheon in the MDR. Had it a couple of times on Aurora and Oriana, couple of years ago. Let me think...Steak, sausage, bacon, lamb chop, liver, black pudding. About it. English mixed grill, no rissole though. Not a huge serving on the ships though, we have some monster mixed grills here in some country pubs.

Mixed grill has been around in the UK for many a year.

Oh dear, I can feel a mixed grill thread coming on here, it could supersede the meat pie thread.

Mr Gut, may I say sir, thou art a seasoned meat pie professional, toting one's own sauce. Truly remarkable old boy.

As Mic says, it will go off in the heat. But no doubt you return the prescribed bottle of Aldi sauce to thy refrigerator, between pie runs.:halo:

Have sauce, will travel.
