There typically are two services available, what they call “surf” and “surf and stream”. Surf is $13/day when buying all remaining days or $20 per 24 hour period. Surf and stream (not sure about these prices as I only get the surf package) is $17/day for all remaining days or $26 per 24 hour period.

As first time cruisers, are you considering the Beverage Package? If so, check your booking. They have been running a Beverage Package/Internet special for around $59 per person per day plus gratuity on the Beverage portion. If you are considering both, might be the way to go.

The "surf" package has been slow to the point of insulting when we have tried it. On one occasion when at birth in Sydney (where there are no satellite reception issues) it took nearly five minutes to load the Amazon landing page. Never again have we had the lower cost package - the extra few dollars for the full speed package are worth it in our experience.

It may not be a speed issue, it may be a ping issue.

Amazon page calls the website about 5000 times to load (not sure of the actual). I have had connections with a fast data rate, but a slow ping, and Amazon page takes minutes to load.

Ping is the time for a response. So your browser requests the page, it takes X amount of time for the page to respond. That is ping. Amazon and many pages, load on small piece at a time, and each piece has the ping time associated with it.

Streaming does not have an issue, as once the streaming starts, the webpage sends the data as fast as it can. It does not wait to be asked.
