Renting a car

We are booked on a Sun-Thurs cruise out of Long Beach. We plan to fly to LAX on Saturday and leave the next Saturday. We are thinking of renting a car while there. Should we rent for the entire week and pay to park at the terminal or should we rent one day before the cruise, return the car, then rent again after the cruise. If we do that how do we get to and from the rental agency?

Hertz, Budget, Avis and Enterprise all have offices on Ocean Avenue in Long Beach. Hertz is closed on Sunday, the others all have Sunday morning hours (until noon).

I believe the parking rates at the pier are now up to $17 per day...so, if you rent the car for the entire week, it will cost you an additional $68 for parking...which may or may not be worth it. Can you get a cheaper weekly rate with no one-way charges--LAX round trip than the cost of two shorter rentals--which MAY have added drop-off charges for picking up at LAX and dropping off at Long Beach--and vice versa?

Also, the weekly rate thing saves you the hassle of going between the rental offices and the pier (which you might do by free Passport Shuttle or if the rental car company will come pick you up--as I believe Enterprise will--but check). Another though is to just Uber or shuttle to Long Beach for that night before, then just rent the car for that Thursday-Saturday after the cruise--assuming you want it for sightseeing, etc.
