This is probably best posted over on the West Coast departures.

But what do you define as reasonable?

Are you driving or flying?

The Hotel Maya is a popular choice for the area.

My group is driving in and we found it cheaper to stay out in Westminister and pay for parking than to stay near the port.

I just booked the Maya for our cruise in March last night...ask for the Carnival rate...it includes room, parking for the week and shuttle service to/from the cruise terminal...it was only $199 a night...I've stayed here years ago and the place is sufficient.

We also are booked at the Maya Doubletree for our Oct. cruise under the park and cruise rate.

We are leaving our car there and they are shuttling us to and from the ship.

However, we have 2 rooms booked for a 15 day cruise, and it is not cheap. ;p

The price to pay for a nice place, with parking and near the pier.

Why not stay on the Queen Mary? They also have AAA discounts, and you can tour the ship and eat there as well. And you are there when your ship comes in.

Yeah, we are splurging and staying there for a night before our cruise. I am really looking forward to it but the OP did request 'reasonable' and I'm not sure that the Queen Mary prices fit that bill. :)

Long Beach has some undesirable areas which you should probably avoid. I will direct you to a local resident's standard and excellent answer. We have stayed at 2 of the hotels on his recommended short list and they were excellent; please heed his advice.

Here is Steve's reply and the link where you can find it (I did correct one broken link):

"I guess it's time again to post my standard answer:

There is a very limited area of Long Beach in which you want to stay...and, therefore, a limited number of hotels.

"A" List: The BEST places to stay are the Hyatt, Westin, Renaissance and Hyatt Centric (also known as Hyatt at the Pike) …These put you right in the heart of the tourist area with very convenient walks to restaurants, shops and attractions and easy access to the free "Passport" shuttle...and those ARE the nicest hotels in town. Doesn't necessarily mean they are higher priced, though...and you can often get a real deal via Priceline...

"B" List: Slightly further away, but still in decent walking distance, is the Hilton. Just across the bridge (on the same side of the channel as the Carnival Pier) are the Marriott Residence Inn Downtown and the Maya Doubletree...

"C" List: Slightly outside the prime area and/or not necessarily the nicest hotels for one reason or another, but options if all else fails are the Marriott Courtyard and the Best Western Long Beach Convention Center...The Queen Mary is across the bridge ...and right next to the Carnival Terminal...however, I am not a big fan of the Queen Mary--unless you are on there for nostalgia's sake...It's not exactly a first class hotel by today's standards--the rooms are small, condition questionable, etc.

Getting to ANY of these hotels from LAX, you'd either have to take a taxi, car service or a shuttle...Try Super Shuttle or Prime Time Shuttle or Super Shuttle's Execucar...From hotel to pier, some of these hotels may have free shuttles, but policies change time to time, so I would check individually with the hotel...All would be a very short taxi ride from the Carnival Pier...From the Maya Doubletree, Residence Inn Downtown or Queen Mary, one could even walk...LAX is 20 miles from the San Pedro World Cruise Center, 23 miles from the Carnival Terminal in Long Beach…could take anywhere from a half an hour to an hour depending on day, time and traffic…

One word of warning: Do NOT go looking for bargains outside of this short list of hotels...Long Beach is a BIG city...there are lots of different areas, some better, some worse...some not so close to the port or the tourist areas...That bargain hotel MAY tell you it's near the Convention Center or near the port...but it may not be...it may be in an undesirable area or location. You want to have a pleasant stay--stick to this list.

This area of Long Beach means you will have a large choice of restaurants nearby, you will have nice shops and picturesque scenery and places to walk and enjoy...You will be close to sites like the Aquarium and the Queen Mary if you want to have a little sightseeing... You will LOVE it. Great choice. :D

Quick question. I have Hyatt points and for the same amount I can book the Hyatt Centric or Hyatt Regency. Which would you go with for a long one day stay? Cruising out the next morning of course.

Also - best way to get to the San Pedro pier from these two hotels??

No idea about the differences in the hotels.

Uber, Lyft or taxi to San Pedro.

I'm sorry, Dave - I see you quoted me and may have been asking me for advice but I simply don't know. My reply will bump this to the top and I hope you get the answer you are looking for. I was not ignoring you, so apologies for the delay. :)

IMHO, it really is a bit of a coin flip...Both hotels get approximately equal reviews. The two hotels are only about a block apart. Both are close to the string of restaurants along the waterfront. The Centric a little closer to the Aquarium. The Hyatt Regency, within the Hyatt hierarchy, is supposed to be the top of their line while the Centric is Hyatt's new concept line. The Hyatt Regency is the older and larger of the two--with more facilities for business meetings, etc. It was originally built as a Hyatt. The Hyatt Centric is only a few years old and was originally built as the "AVIA Long Beach", then acquired by Hyatt. The views from at least some of the rooms at the Regency may be a bit better as it sits next to a small lake with open views to the harbor--while the Centric sits within the Pike shopping/entertainment complex. You really can't go wrong with either one.

As to getting from there to San Pedro, I would suggest Uber...It's about 6-7 miles across two bridges and Terminal Island.
