Cabin decorations on Carnival

I've booked a cruise for August sailing out of Mobile on the Carnival Fantasy. The trip is a graduation present for my sister (it will be her first cruise, my third), and I wanted to surprise her and decorate the cabin. The only way I can think of for it to be a surprise is to get one of the decorations packages from Carnival. They seem to be a bit pricey, especially for something I know I could do myself a lot cheaper and when one of the occasion options isn't even graduation. Does anyone have an opinion on them?

You may want to post this over at the Carnival board.

We witnessed a family complain about them (birthday) being a rip off on our Vista cruise.

I know some people prefer to put a gift in the cabin (bought from Carnival or placed themselves). You could also order a iced message cake with graduation on or whatnot. Carnival occasion cakes are apparently quite nice. Check out the other sections in Bon Voyage.

You could also 'sneak off' on embark day and do it yourself for a cheaper and more personal touch...which is personally what I would do if it were me.

Thanks, I will try over there too! That was my first thought, but as of now it's just me and her going. I've invited other family, so there may be more. But if it's just us me sneaking off is going to be pretty obvious, lol

Get her a cocktail and tell her that you have to sort some boring business out with dining/guest services and you don't want her to queue for ages on her first cruise....then say its her job to enjoy the sun while you fix it.

Done :D

You're new here and not aware that door decorations are a hot topic. Some people love them because it personalizes their space. Others loath them because it looks like junk. Carnival has decoration packages for sale because 1) they meet IMO flame retardant requirements and 2) they wanted to get a handle on some of the way over the top decorations that were lining the hallways. Fire always has been and still is one of the most serious situations that can occur on a ship.

Be VERY careful not to do anything that will damage your sister's cabin, like using tape or adhesive that could pull off the wall panel finishes. About five years ago red adhesive stickers were popular cabin Christmas decorations. The stickers caused an orange red dye to seep into the wall panels and permanently discolor them. Per the booking contract, passengers are responsible for any damage done to their cabin. Those cabins were charged between $5000 and $7500 for wall panel replacement.

Now that I'm looking, I'm seeing a lot on door decorations. I was wanting to decorate inside the cabin, though. Not sure I'd want to risk anything that gets put on the door being ripped off and me being pissed or going off on someone, and her being disappointed someone ruined her decorations. I may just have to get over the need for it to be a surprise. :-/ We'll see as the cruise gets closer, lol

Would you put such decorations on a hote r room door? Most hotels in which I stay w ould not permit that and they would be removed immediately. Tha t is a public space and all those who p;ass down that hall way must s ee them whether they wish to or not. Hall ways are shared by all and are n ot a private space.

I appreciate that people have a lot of feelings about door decorations, but I've still only gotten a few responses with information/opinions on decorations INSIDE the cabin, and how to make it a surprise for my sister. TBH, I'm really not trying to get in the middle of whatever wars people are waging about doors.

the inside decorations are a bit pricy, but they are fire retardant and that has become a requirement for any decorations. I paid for the bon voyage package for my daughter's cruise, along with a cake and it made a very nice surprise and the cake was very good!!

Thank you!

The more I look at it, the more the packages might not be so bad. Since you get the decorations, plus a towel and a picture frame and a cake or something for like $50. It might definitely be worth it.

Is it okay if I assume your sister is an adult? Will she really b e all kinds of excited for birthday decorations in her cabin? if your decorations leave any a marks on twalls, be prepared to get a bill for repairs. Also keep in mind the steward has to clean the cabin superiors do inspections. When putting o ut your decorations, try to not make his/her work harder .

Yes, she's an adult. The graduation is college. And she's usually excited about party type stuff, and at the very least excited about cake, lol.

Well, then, there is your answer. YOu know your sister and what will please her. Buy and pack your own graduation decorations for inside the cabin and order a cake from ship to be served at dinner one night If you buy your decorations at home, from a party s tore, you will save enough to pay for the 'cake '. Congratulations to your sister and have a great cruise. :)

All the walls & doors in your cabin are metal so magnets stick to them. You don't have to bring tape. I have 4 strong magnets I use for a poster we put up. I used to use blue painter's tape but now just the magnets. The poster is rolled up on large rolled cardboard and the magnets are stuck together in it.

And, hang things from the ceiling too!

We have been on the Fantasy many times before it moved 'south'. The band across from the casino bar is a fun place to sit before dinner and dance to their music, then after the shows!
